I shoot informal benchrest with TC Contender pistols in a number of calibers. My normal firing position is to rest the handgun forearm on a bullsbag, (I'm right handed), holding the grip with my right elbow bent & resting on a small sandbag, My L/H is on top of the scope holding it down & steading the entire set up.
I just bought a new barrel, a 14" .223 & mounted a 2X8 power Weaver Classic Pistol Scope on it. Went to the range for the first time yesterday to sight in & found the eye relief of this scope sooo long that I had to shoot with my right arm fully extended, (Im 5'11", 200 lbs with a 33" sleeve) which is really an impossible position for benchrest shooting. Measuring the distance from the rear optic to my eye when in the position discribed above, it's 16". Weaver claims the eye relief is 16 to 25". Am I missing anything ?, this is suposed to be a highly rated scope, but I'm very disapointed.
The rest of my scopes, all Nikon's & Simmons have much closer eye relief distances.

Well, Guess I should tell 'ya that I resolved my problem with the extra long eye relief of the Weaver 2-8X 'Pistol' scope. After talking it over with a buddy, he suggested that the only solution might be moving the scope forward. I had initially instally the scope by placing the rear lens in the exact same position as that of the scopes on my other six contender barrels.
I first checked the position of the scope in the rings & found that I could losen them & move the scope forward about an inch, I then noted that both rings were installed in the rear slot of each of the two sets of slots in the Weaver base used to attach the rings. I removed the cross bolts from the rings, (Burris Zee's), slid them forward 'til the both aligned with the forward set of slots & reinstalled the cross locking bolts.
Went back to my range this AM & problem is resolved, eye relief is still rather on the long side, but it's acceptable to me. Shooting it this AM,( it's mounted on a .223 Rem barrel), I later moved to another contender with a .22 Hornet barrel with a 2-6X Simmons installed & immediately noticed that the Simmons seems to provide greater magnification at 6X than the Weaver does at 8X. Both were being fired at the same sized, (1") bull at 100 yards, so it wasn't an optical illusion due to different bull sizes. New setup looks 'strange', but it works & the look is probably only because it is so different from the positioning I've grown used to on all my other contender barrels.
