For Christmas I was given a .17 HMR Marlin bolt action with the heavy barrel. I put a 2-7-33 Leupold vx-2 on it. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I am planning on hunting coyote with it after Deer season this year. Do you think this is a good Combination or should I go for 4-12 or something bigger. Thanks

I just put a Bushnell Banner 4x12x40 on my 22 mag that I received for Christmas, Im happy with the scope, I blasted several prarie dogs this morning.  I just wish that I would have spent the extra $30 and got the 6x18x50.

That should be plenty for a 17 hmr.  I have a $30 cheap tasco 3-9-33 on a savage bolt action 17 and that does just fine.  You can only really shoot about 150-200 yards with it and you might be able to kill a dog with it at that distance if your shot is placed right.  Happy hunting and you will enjoy your 17.
