I just ordered a Smith & Wesson model 41.

Any suggestions on Red Dot style sights ?  Go with a Reflex or Tube type setup ?  I will be shooting outdoors with various sunlight conditions at 25 & 50 yards.

First time out for this style of sight...    Have been using standard EER scopes up to this point.

Thank you for your input.

I had a ~$20 tube type red dot (barska or bsa?) on my Smith and Wesson 22A (a poor mans 41?) It was like cheating. I've used the same red dot on my Ruger 22/45, also like cheating.

I've never used one of the reflex type aiming devices so I can't help you there.

I tried an Ultradot and took it off and put it on a 22 where it is OK but not what Im used to. I then went to a 2x Burris and from there went to an Aimpoint 9000L which I just love. I have not used the small holo sights but I prefer a  2 moa dot and most of that stuff is way larger.

Thank you for sharing the information.

Any detailing positive/negative reasons for a reflex/holo -vs- tube style?
Light conditions?...
Quickness on target?...
Build quality?...
???

I think tubes are better in the brightest of light conditions.
Long narrow tubes are slower, big short tube vs reflex is faster halo is fastest. You can be quite far from behind center of your sight before you loose that 65 moa circle.
I am waiting for opinions but I think for up close and fast I want at least a 5-7 moa dot on my reflex but, different application.
Aimpoints are about as rugged as they get, overall there are plenty of good and bad in both catagories stick with a quality brand and you will most likely enjoy what you get.

This thread, while very interesting to me, is pretty old now.

Ying Yang  Not really sure why you would need ultra fast on a 22 but the aimpoint red dots should do you.  I just put one on my pistol they are way better than the ultra dot I used to have.  Still like the low power Burris pistol scopes though I have the 1x which is unfortunately no longer made but their 2x is quite a nice scope for a handgun.
