SS 3-9x42 Mil-Quad in a QD (quick detach) mount of your choice.
For the effective range of your AR, a 3-9 will be plenty of scope for yotes.
or if you want 20 MOA built into your base, look at this one -

Exit eye pupil is what the amount of light that is transmitted through the scope is refered to and it is determined by two factors the power of the scope and the size of the front objective.
So a 6x42 or 42mm divided by 6 = 7mm exit eye pupil So think in multiples of 7 1x 7mm 2x 14mm 3x 21mm 4x 28mm 5x 35mm 6x 42mm 7x 49mm 8x 56mm http://swfa.com/Trijicon-Compact-Acog-Rifle-Scopes-C209.aspx I really prefer the Compact Acog illuminated reticles in fixed powers and I use a 1.5x and a 3x almost all the time they are compact and bright rugged optics with the best illumination that can be had as you do not have to turn it on. |

I also very much like this Leupold 6x42 heavy duplex for low light.

If you dial in correction the SS in a 6x42 is a fine choice.

http://www.opticstalk.com/extensive-swfass-group-buy-incredible-savings_topic28845.htmlThere are several good tough scopes in the Super Sniper line these are only available at SWFA and are produced to specs that the military asked for. They have different features that vary by model.
Trijicon has the best illumination system they use both fiber optic and tritium so it is always on and uses no batteries. I also very much like the Leupold fixed power scopes for a basic scope. Sightron SIII scopes have very nice glass. Bushnell Elite scopes have nice glass but pick of the litter seems to be the Zeiss Conquest scopes and you can often find demo ones on samplelist. A lot depends on you tollerance for price you really do get what you pay for with optics sometimes less never more. Every now and then you will stumble across a true bargain here the Vortex Viper 2 to 7 is a good value for a good all around hunting scope with pretty decent glass. When a guy is trying to hit something at longer distances say 300 yds and further you need some type of system to figure out where the bullet will be at that distance. Balistic reticles can be useful but typically are used at the highest power of the scope. Target knobs or Tactical knobs with no cover can be used to dial in adjustment into the scope to correct for bullet drop. There are also companies like Kenton Industries that will custom engrave a replacement knob to show yards rather than minute of angel or mil numbering once they know you bullet and other information. Scopes are selected based on your budget your needs how it will be used at what distance if it is for hunting how you will hunt from a fixed position with a solid rest or stalking game. You really need a good rest once you get higher than about 6 power . The correct mount is also very important. use the search feature to learn more.
