I'm trying to mount a Leupold VX III 3.5-10 X 50 on my Sako Finnlite. The bell is barely touching. The thickness of two layers of typing paper would give me clearence.I'm pretty bummed out over it.Is there any way to shim under the plastic insert like with a small cut of aluminum can?

I hate to go that route anyway as it seems a poor solution. One of my main concerns is no place within 200 miles of me stocks rings that will fit.I think I'm using medium in the Sako brand but I'm not sure of the height. I want this scope mounted as low as possible but don't want to have to keep swapping to get the right ones.

call swfa.  if you're willing to pay 200$ for the optiloks, someone at swfa could help you find a different or better solution with lower cost and you could get them overnighted :)

I have used a piece of aluminum can to shim a scope once before, it isn't ideal but its doable.
Just try to put the same size on each ring to prevent binding.

You can see the shim under the scope in this picture, one piece of aluminum can didn't raise it enough so I ordered new rings.

Ok,bad idea I think to use anything around the inserts. I cut and fit the thinnest Kydex I had on hand to shim the bottom of the bases. This gives me plenty of room, maby a little more than I need.Do you guys think it will work ok and not cause me any problems? Here is a picture with one shim installed and one leaned against the ring.
