I'm looking at the Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42, the Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40, the Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14x40 and the Leupold VX III 4.5-14x40.  These all seem to be excellent scopes with the first three being similarly priced.  Are there any differences that makes one better than the other?  Is the Leupold $200+ better than the others?

Thanks!

My rifle is a Browning A-Bolt 280.  I mostly will deer hunt.  Would another type of scope be better?

RBall, depending on where you will be deer hunting, East or West, shorter ranges or longer ranges, the Elite 4200 would be my first choice, Grand Slam second. For a 280, great choice for deer sized game by the way, you might want to consider the 4200 Elite 2.5-10 or the Grand Slam 3-10. I have an Elite 4200 2.5-10 w/ the FireFly reticle on my 280 Ackley Imp and I think that any deer that is walking this side of 400 yrds is in the freezer. In case your not aware, if you purchase the Elite and you don't like it( HIGHLY unlikely ) you can return it to Bushnell for a full refund for up to ONE YEAR of the purchase date. To me, it's a no brainer! As far as the Leupold scopes are concerned, I think they have priced themselves out of the market. Leupold has a well earned reputation for building rugged, reliable and overall quality scopes. From an optical standpoint, they are in the price ballpark of some of the 1" EURO scopes. In my opinion, the 4200 Elite has better optics than any of the three Leupold Vari-X lll scopes I currently own. Hope this helps you.

I will be hunting the most in Texas.  Most shots will be 100-200 yards.  I am hunting in Kansas this year.  The guys I'm going with say you may have 300+ shots.  Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as Roy. Save those extra hard earned pennies, and go with the 4200.  Have you seen those Gear bags offered with the purchase of any Bushnell product with rainguard coating's. Its pretty sweet.

past 300 yards the adjustable objective is a good idea. if you look on samplelist, the have 4-12 VXII's with mildots for a good buy. and last time i checked i think they had some 4.5-14 VXIII's with the A/O for a good buy. ut if you want to spend some more money they have the new one with the side focus.

Roy is hard to argue with when he is making that much sense.

I appreciate the info!  How does the 4200 warranty compare to the Grand Slam and Burris?

All are lifetime warranties but only the Elite has the additional "No Questions Asked" one- year replacement warranty (U.S. only).
