I know I've heard some of yall mention these before but I want to get a good book to record all my data for each rifle in.  Figure if I am going to get a high dollar gun and try to get the best out of it I better keep up with my notes better than just post its on the reloading bench.  What say yall on recommendations?  Want a place for load data and each shot info.

i use their books on my tac rifles, great quality product, can write on the pages even if wet.  Helpful measurements and drop tables (caliber-specific), lots of pages for notes and zero data.

Good stuff, buy with confidence.

OK, I went and got a book.  I have an impact data book and storm, but the one with the rifle of choice is this one:

All are very similar, all are rifle and environment log books.  Some have more "stuff", I don't use it much.  I tend to log everything from my Kestrel and forget the rest.  If you need a printed book to tell you where your round will impact, you're doing it wrong.

Don't get lost in the options.

I use mine mostly to keep a rounds count and scope/ammo dope.  I had come to depend heavily on a data book and then my wife and youngest daughter set me free.  (Come to think of it, that MAY not have been an accident)  I don't have as much flexibility in some ways, but I have more fun, now.  I'm not as uptight about "logging everything".
RC is right on, they are all pretty much the same and none are magic.  If you get one, use it for the tool it is, it's an aid, that's it...

Love my modular impact data book.  Spend some time looking over all the different pages that you can include in YOUR book the way you want it.

Don't be afraid to call them up either.  Very friendly, patient, and willing to answer all your questions.

A modular book comes with a set of standard pages, then you get to pick out the rest.  I highly recommend getting the platic tab pages to break up and organize your book into sections.

Here's what I went with and what I see when I open my book:

1st section - standard pages which includes shooter info, rifle info., emergency contact info., some standard ballistics charts, range estimation page, yard to meters conversion page, come up sheet, mil values, moa values, Mil - MOA conversions, etc.

2nd section - (CB-CIR) Cold bore data with circles pages.

3rd section - (come up sheets)  Right now I have several loads I'm working with.  So, to keep everything straight once I've chronographed and run the data through a ballistics calculator, I write that data down on these pages.

4th section - I used 3 of my choices for this section - Shooters diary Circle (SD-S-DIR), Shooters Diary Square (SD-S-SQU), and Shooters Diary Blank pages (SD-B-B).  These pages give me plenty of room to log a shooting session - more than one shot.

5th section - Load Test (LD-LT)  After studying as good as I could the options for load development pages online, I opted for these.  I mistakenly ordered this set of pages twice - my mistake.  I found these pages recorded the data that I most wanted.

6th section - Reticle hold - chances are Impact Data has your reticle and these are handy if you want that data.

This is just an example of what you can put together with a little studying of what's available, what your uses and needs are, Vs. just buying an off the shelf book that will no doubt have alot of pages that are of absoluetly no use to you.  Another benefit is that you can add or remove pages as you fill them up or your needs change at your leisure.

I'd highly recommend that you also buy yourself a data book cover to protect your book and keep pens, pencil, mil-dot master, etc. handy in once place.  Impact has a cover, but I opted to get mine through Triad Tac. as they had more color options available and a better price on the cover.

If you were or are like me, who took a note book to the range and scribbled down notes, chrono results, daily weather conditons, etc., etc. you'll appreciate what a data book can do for you.  If nothing else, it will keep what data you do collect in one place, in a manner that's organized.

Good luck and let us know what you decide and if you like it once you've had a chance to use it.

You also made mention of doing this for several rifles.  You could do multiple rifles in a book, or go with a book for each rifle which would cost more.  Call up Impact Data and explain your needs.  They will lead you down the right path.  The gentleman was more than helpful to me for my simple data needs.

I'd go regular and modular or risk buying alot of pages you may not need or ever use.  The nice thing about the modular binders is that you can add/remove.  The sprial bounds you use what you want til it's full then what?

Especially if you are data logging alot of loads and alot of guns.  You'll be money ahead in the long run going modular.

Good luck and enjoy your data book.

My mistake, I thought the pocket size did not come in a modular version.  It does.  It will just be smaller.  Go with what works for you.

Just saw this - http://www.impactdatabooks.com/Single_Book_Multiple_Gun_Kit_p/i-sbmg-kit.htm

I will be ordering one of these when they become available - about 10 days.

I just called Impact Data, and the reticle page for the SS 5-20 should be available in 10 days or so.

I have used both the storm and the impact data books.  I like the impact because you can build your own book based on your needs and equipment.  Their target sheets are great.  They even have my departments targets. and a lot of the more commonly used targets. Bandito

Mark (www.stormtactical.com) has an amazing product and he makes data books for a lot of companies and departments.   He also has a modular data book and will customize it to your specs.

I worked with both Mark and his partner Ken a few years ago and they are great guys and willing to do just about anything to help out a guy in need.  They donate numerous data books every year to our snipers that are deployed.

As posted by others, any book is better than having no book at all, and I would have to agree that the modular books are a better fit for most people due to the ability to add and subtract pages as needed that you will use.

I would also suggest that you opt for the Write in Rain paper for two reasons, 1) so you can collect data in adverse conditions and 2) in case you have kids that spill your coffee while you are going over your data book.
Yes I lost several pages of data to my 3 year old and a cup of coffee.  Coffee

Nice but quite expensive and frankly speaking one maybe can also enjoy to build his own squad data-log on some pocket pc, based on spreadsheet a/or database, thus allowing also easier calculations (e.g. n.o of rounds x barrel etc.). We did this on a small HP200LX for years. Once at home everything can be transferred on the pc ... also save paper
