Honestly haven't got to talk to him about it. My daughter says it took about 24-26hrs and turned out GREAT. She told me he had the fan running pretty fast which he doesn't need to do. I'll be talking with him over the weekend and I'll ask him about the tray switching. If y'all think of any other questions just let me know.

No heat source? Strickly airflow dehydration? My cheap Ronco uses a very low wattage heating element in the bottom to generate the airflow.
Sweet! Looks like he could add a boat load more shelves!

When your talking this much meat an oven ain't gonna cut it.
I talked to a native Alaskan who had posted pics of his people prepping meat and fish for winter. I asked him if it could be done like that pretty much anywhere. He says all you need is a fairly steady breeze. If it quits and bugs become a problem you can cover it with pepper. In fact I've seen (and maybe you have to) pics of African tribes doing it tghe same way. So I told my SIL about it and one thing led to another.

FINALLY talked with him today. The fan, which he found lying along Rt 81,moves so much air that rotating the trays isn't necessary.
He didn't have any to bring me. Kids ate most of it. He took the rest to work where the guys told him they'd pay him to make them more.

You'd be surprised at what you find laying along the road. My son works the DC Beltway and Dulles Airport approach road alot. Last week he found a new, like in never activated,$500 handheld something or other. First week of Va. bow season he found a six point whitetail along a row of Jersy walls. It was already gutted.
Seamaster,my SIL says that the air dried stuff is better than the heat dried. That so?

I found heat dried takes away too much moisture out of meat. I could be wrong.

I know my Ronco will quickly over dry jerky if not rotated and closely watched after about 14 hours. It depends of course on beginning thickness of Jerky. I'm pretty sure forced air dry is more forgiving and would take longer to over dry things.

I'm just guessing but I think the slower you dry meat the better. I'm thinking that no matter how low a heat your using that it's going to kinda "cook"(for lack of a better word)the outside where as no heat will let the meat dry the same clear through. Ya think?

Now THAT I can believe. I have a friend whose worked for the State Roads FOREVER. No major highways so he don't find "the good stuff" but he told me that he's picked up so many deer carcasses that he wouldn't eat venison if he were starving.
