I don't know what I could do now, but when I qualified in recruit school, I shot on a NRA 25yd bull target from 25yds. We fired one handed 10 single action rounds at a target, for score. We did this 3 times and averaged the scores for a final score. I scored a 98, 100, and 99, don't remember the x count. We also shot from 25yds double action at a silhouette target (don't remember which one) and the 10 ring was generous in size. Again it was the average of 3 targets, 10 rounds each and timed. I shot 100s on all three, one handed, and I could have used boyh hands.

Shocked    Bow  teach me O' Obi wan.

So I should be focusing on the front site and not the target?  Didn't know that.
Explains why I was having so much trouble in low light!

I'll try and go shooting this weekend before the sun gets behind the targets.

So you keep shooting at each 5" plate until you hit it twice then moved to the next?
At what distance?

Sounds like fun!
Kinda, we shoot at each target twice, hit or no hit, then move to the next one, shoot twice, and so on until the guns empty, count up your hits and compare to your rounds fired, of course you want all rounds in target but its harder than it seems if you move fast.

IF you safety/decock and holster in between each plate it adds a whole new dynamic.  Its how i practice.

You never said how far you are from the targets.  If  its 25 yds....I hate you! Smile  I think I hardly had any hit within 2.5" of center....period! Whacko

Lynn thanks very much for all the background info on the S&W way of things!  A numbering system that is logical and easy to follow!!! Who would of thunk it!!!  A mechical Engineer must have come up with that!

OKAy I'm looking at my 39 and it is indeed a 39 no dash gun serial no 33811.  So its 1st gen pre mod. if not 1st production run.  I'll see if I can find out when it was made.

Just check frame with a magnet....its alloy.

I like the drill and will have to try it.  Our closet targets are 25yds. I'll have to wait till I have the range to myself since I'll have to stand in the fairway.

I practice at the distances that i feel i'd me more likely to defend myself in.   But I'm shooting for practice for self defence, no groups or anything like that.

Yes!!!!
Dry fire is the best practice without ammo. I used  a spot on the wall of my bedroom  for an aiming point when I dry fired. For a test I balanced a dime on the front sight and practiced my trigger press. If the dime fell before or when the hammer fell, I was jerking the trigger, if it didn't move and stayed on the front sight, then I was pressing the trigger correctly (trigger control).

balance a dime....booger pickin time!  The wonder glue!

I'll have to try that.  If I can get the dime to balance at all!  Sounds like a great trick to teach oneself control!!!

Oh...that practice spot in the bedroom..... wouldn't have happened to be
a picture of a trucker would it?!!? Bucky

The target and your rear sight should be a slight blur in your vision.  Really you should shoot rifles the same way.  Focus on the front sight.  With a scope focus on the reticle.

I've got some friends who use +1 or +1.5 reading glasses when shooting target. They choose the power that gives them the clearest picture of the front sight and say their groups show dramatic improvment. I have yet to try it but plan to next time out to the range.
Going tonight to parkerize my CZ82. Those are some great little C/C peices for the money. You can now get 9X18 defense loads that are bad to the bone. Also recently got a Ruger MKIII 22/45SS that I plan to give a real workout at the range. "Happiness is paper targets and bunches of ammo!!"

And the time to burn them up! Excellent

I already wear bi-focals but My sister has a bunch of 1 to 3X readings glasses she bought before finally breaking down and going to the eye doctor. Smile

I'll have to give that a try.

Sgt is it possible to rechamber the CZ82 to accept 9X19 Parabelum verses the 9X18 Markov?
Knowing me i'd get the 2 rounds mixed up and into the wrong guns!

What Sgt.D said. I have heard this trick (solution) before, but had never really used it until last week, during a practice session. I had an old pair of 1x reading glasses with larger than normal lenses. The front sight was nice and clear, and the target (and everything else) was a slight blurr, but not so bad that I wanted to puke when I was done.
I mentioned this to my wife, and she got on that thing Gore invented ( Laugh) and ordered a pair of 1x safety reading glasses for me. I hope to try them out at the next match. I'm kind of opposed to this for practical reasons, but hay, it's just an experimentNaughty

I look good in anythingCool At least in my mind.

Oh yes. I still have some more testing to do, but I was able to determine that I needed to adjust my elevation; I just didn't have a screwdriver.

Well I got to the range again today.  Had better light too.  Day was overcast.  Shot my S&W422 22LR and my new (to me) Sig P226 9mm.
Both worked well and I'm pleased with both so far.  Here are a couple of targets.
