I am looking for a good rear bag, preferably one that would fit into a cargo pocket. I know some can be attached to your rifle in one way or another but I dont want it bouncing around anywhere.

I am interested these bags: 8541 Tactical rear bag, Triad Tactical Red Tac Gear rear bag, and a Holland rear bag. Has anyone used any of these? Im open to any other suggestions, ive gotten tired of using a rolled up towel or a backpack in the rear.

The bag will be used at the range as well as in the field; off a bench and prone.

There are a couple of different routes you can go. One is a leather bag filled with some type of sand (I use fine sandblasting silica because it's cheap and easy for me to come by). Another is the same bag filled with poly foam beads or some other light material, or you can make your own. I use 25lb shot bags because the material is very durable, and either use sand or saw dust to fill them.
A sand filled bag is heavy and better for the range, where your not carrying it all over the place. The light material filled bag (polly beads, saw dust, etc.) can be used at the range or in the field.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I use Holland's.
They work well for me.
Haven't used the others, so I can't give you a comparison.

Is it a very heavy bag? Can it fit in a cargo pocket?

I like the idea using a leather bag for the range, especially if I can make it myself. I was thinking of making one out of an old pillow case and filling it with sand like you said. I dont have any leather bags lying around. Are there any range bags you could recommend to buy? Im not a benchrest shooter so it doesnt need to be really big and expensive.

Had the same idea about making a set of bags from leather and found two old jackets for $2 apiece at a thrift shop and 48" table top covered in one- piece leather for $12... so now have enough to also make a set of chaps and used the sleeves of one jacket- still attached to the yoke as blackberry picking sleeves.

I like using airsoft BB's in any size and shape back you want.

They are a solid base and pretty light.
