Came across a older model Weatherby Mark XXII that is become more and more difficult to pass up.  This is the semi-auto version Weatherby was selling about 20 years ago and not the bolt action model.  These are classic 22s with the typical Weatherby Monte Carlo stock, gloss finish...etc.

Looking to restore it to near original condition and planning on mounting a Weatherby 4x50 scope.  The 50 refers to light transmission if I remember right and not objective lens size.  Actual objective lens is 24 or 28mm.

Anyone have any experience with the Weatherby 4x50 scope?  Interesting design with its integrated mounting system, but more interested in the quality of the glass/reliability.  I'm led to believe they had German glass.

Coyote:  Thanks.  I've been searching at Rimfirecentral as well.  Looks like the glass on the 4x50 was Japanese.  Their Imperial Scope was made in Germany by Hertel & Reuss based on info on the site.

Based on comments, looks like the reviews on optic quality has been good for a scope that was offered from 1966-84.

Might be a nice addition for the rifle, but expect there are better options from more modern scopes that still provide the classic rimfire scope look.

Did a quick search online for the Mark XXII scopes and none to be found.  While the search continues, mounting a more modern scope for squirrel hunting seems prudent.  Like to receive recommendations on possible options.  Only caveat is that it has a classic rimfire scope look.

Here is the critieria I'm using for classic look:

- Less than 33mm objective size
- Variable in the 2-7x preferred, but open to fixed power (4x+) or going up to a 3-9x
- Gloss finish preferred
- Capped low profile turrets
- Parallax adjusted to 50 yards

A few come to mind like the Leupold Var X II 2-7x28, Weaver Classic rimfire (not gloss finish), Vortex Diamondback (not gloss either).

Primary use will be cutting paper out to 100 yards with occasional squirrel/varmit hunting.  Low light performance is important, despite the small objective size.

Budget is $400 but willing to go higher for right glass/low light performance.

Now there is an interesting option.  Low profile turrets with 32mm objective size.  Wasn't expecting a FFP reticle in a rimfire scope and I like their rapid reticle ranging systems.  Beats guessing at hold overs with a duplex reticle.

Not very familiar with PFI optics but have heard good things on this forum about them.
