Keep in mind the idea that there may come a day when you need to move the safe. Second floor installations may go fine initally, but plan ahead for an uncertain future. Ask if the door is removable (that makes them lighter) (secondly the door alone can be transported to a locksmith to re set the combo in case you do something stupid like giving your girl the combo).  Stay away from electronic locking systems.

Disagree... DoD has been using electronic locking systems for highly classified material since the 80's with outstanding results.  Works for guns as well...
My observation is that some people cannot make the "technology transition"...  it IS different than a mechanical locking system...
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

I agree.

One can upgrade the digital lock to a commercial-grade lock, such as the LaGard "SafeGard".
Banks and others use them when they need to get in and out multiple times a day.

Oh, I agree again with your double post.

Another vote for Liberty.  I have a Cabela's "48 gun" model, which is just a rebadged Liberty "Fatboy," and I love it!  It's nice and heavy, well-made, and secure.  Liberty also has many models to choose from.  Like Wes, I was initially concerned with the electronic lock, but thus far, it's worked flawlessly, so I'm starting to trust it.

I also like the Pendleton round safes with the rotary carousel storage system.  I don't own one, but I think it's a clever design and makes better use of space than the traditional rectangular safes.  Plus, you never have to move a bunch of guns out of the way to get to one stored in the back, due to the powered indexible carousel.

Unless all your guns are lever action .22's with iron sights, you'll get about half the number of long guns the mfgs specs claim with all brands, except maybe the Pendleton.

Electronic locks can, have, and will fail. As for mechanical locks, I have never seen a quality lock fail. Does anyone have any experience with a mechanical lock failing?
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.
