Hello members,
My name is Steve I live in North Wales UK. I've been using rifle scopes for many years, on full bore but now mainly target and hunting air rifle use. I thought it was time I joined a forum such as this as I occasionally require info / help with my optics, I have some experience also which my be of help to someone else at some point, not much mind but some. Smile

To my question.

I've recently bought a Burris FF E1 3-9 x 40 for use on my hunting air rifle.
I must admit for the price the optics IMO are excellent.
I would like to try and adjust parallax for the ranges I use. 25 - 50yrds, so it's really needs to be set around the 43yrd mark. I have noticed left right POI change at 30 yrds, I use a Bisley extension tube but still find it hard to align my eye perfectly consistently every time. The locking ring is thread locked and I guess I'm going to have to apply heat to free it. I've only adjusted one non AO scope in the past and I could free the locking ring without heat. If I can free it ok the lens has to go forward of course but will I be able to do that by just turning the lens, I see no other ring under the locking ring but I do see one just under on the inside?

Looking for advice, if I send it away it's likely to take 6 weeks and I'd rather not be without it that long.

Cheers!
Steve.

Adjusting the parallax internally is something better left to the factory. If the seals are broken you lose the gas purge that protects the internals of the scope. Your warranty is void. You will not be able to know precisely where to set the lens (even if you can get the scope apart without destroying it) to achieve the setting you wish to have. You would have been ahead, to have purchased a scope with AO or a scope dedicated to your purpose in the beginning.
Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.

Hi thanks for the reply, yes I am concerned about loosing the nitrogen purge, I have done it before but the locking ring was not thread locked and I was extremely careful about not breaking the seal.
I could re-set ok to the desired point but in this case I think your right, it should go to someone with the correct gear.
Yes, a big boo boo on my part I wish I'd have thought a little harder and bought a rimfire scope, I'm considering move this on to get a Vortex 2-7 x 35 or similar. I do like the Burris E1 optics though.
Actually I was miss-led a little, one scope supplier said they could re-set it before delivery if I bought from them. I found it cheaper elsewhere and I thought if they could then so could I.   They were not an optical specialist just a supplier so I think they would NOT have been able to do this Burris. They said no problem with a Leupold I was looking at and felt sure they could do it with the Burris!! ..... I should not have listened!
I have just located a specialist optical company here in the UK that are willing to do it, but as you say warranty goes out the window plus it will cost me an extra 50 quid.
So do I get them to do it or do I cut my losses move it on and buy a rimfire scope already set to 50y, the latter I feel is the way to go.
