So I have Stevens Model 987 .22lr, it's an older rifle and I have been shooting it since I was a little kid with no issues at all. Well I took it out this weekend and have put about 100-150 rounds through it then I pulled the trigger and it fired 3 rounds automatically. I just thought it was a run away gun, like a one time event. so I shot two more rounds through it by quickly slapping the trigger and it worked perfectly. So then I attempted to recreate the event, I found out if I pin the trigger not quite all the way back it will fire about 3 rounds at a time. I haven't cleaned it yet simply because I am away from my cleaning kit, and am just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this with a 987 or if this is just a cleaning issue.

Firing pin stuck in the face of the bolt, the sear is bad, or it is not catching the firing pin to make it semi auto.
Spring Loaded firing pin??? Check those. Edited by 338LAPUASLAP - November/11/2012 at 21:53 |
