I bought a Savage 10 FCP-SR http://savagearms.com/firearms/models/ Law Enforcement Series. This model comes with a digital tan camo stock but the barrel comes threaded for a flash suppressor and it uses detachable magazines. I ordered this in December before the gun world went bonkers and when I got it just one look told me that the metal would look better in a brown or tan tone so I set about looking for someone who could do good work but would not take six months to get it back. I found http://controlledchaosarms.com/custom%20shop.html Controlled Chaos and started asking around about their work and everyone who had done business with them that I could find said they do quality work. In the past I have had some rifles finished in Walter Birdsongs tan T finish which is awesome but takes a good six months to get back as their military orders go to the front of the pile. After talking to the gunsmith at Controlled Chaos I decided this would be my test rifle to see what kind of work they really do. I have to say that I am very impressed with the professional quality of their work - the boys know what they are doing for sure. They do a lot of shipped in work and had four gunsmiths there when I went by. I have to say I am extremely pleased with the quality of their work. The rifle also shoots very well I got it out to zero it today and had a mixed bag of loose ammo in different weights to see what it would do and I can say that for an out of the box gun this shoots like a custom rifle. And as for the 16x42 Mil Quad Super Sniper - Hell Yea Its AWESOME

Cerakote is a superior finish in terms of durability to any other "spray and bake" type finish I'm aware of. I have several Cerakoted rifles, and the finish holds up very well, much better than any poly type finish.

Typically I like to send rifles to Walter Birdsong I just hate the 6 month + wait to get them back. I've got to say that I was really impressed with not only the work that these guys do but their attitude. These boys have their sh*t together. While I was there I also had the chance to see a snow camo paint job they did and some of the refinish work they do modifying the glock pistols. A Glock can really feel a lot different in the hand if you relieve it some at the back of the trigger guard. Just picking up and holding a stock Glock makes you wonder if they guys who designed them had really really small hands my big paws always suffer with the middle finger not having enough room between the trigger guard and the lower finger grove. To tell you the truth Ive thought about relieving that area of the grip myself for years and this was just enough encouragement for me to fire up the dremel tool. I've done a little gunsmith work on my Smith and Wessons over the years out of necesity since my favorite revolver gunsmith died in the late 80s and finding a gunsmith that I truely trust is a very short list. I have been pretty happy with the work from GAPrecision in Kansas City but they are always back logged. So it was truely a God Send to find these guys at Controlled Chaos which is located very close to where Brownells is located. Really Quality Work I will be taking another rifle to them next Monday or Tuesday.

Plus 1 for Black-T. When you get a rifle finish from Birdsong you can be sure that it is done 100% correctly and you will have complete coverage and 100% function as well. I don't know if you can get all the little tiny parts (typically found in trigger mechanisms) covered with the other type finishes and have them function perfectly as well. Birdsong has forgotten more than the others know combined and the amount of weapons that have gone through that facility is mind boggling. |

Roy I think you are correct about the small parts I note the front of the bolt face is unaltered these other finishes probably add to thickness the depth of the finish. Still I like the color tone of the Flat Dark Earth and the range of colors for Cerakote allow for some interesting adaptations. I do have a MarPat Digi stock on my AI GAP 300 WM but it was done by a fellow in Kansas City who unfortunately lost touch with reality after a family tragedy. In any case I was very glad to find these guys. My boys have a couple of R5 Mil Spec rifles that I want to tone down the reflective quality of the stainless so this seems ideal.

Also, the owner of Controlled Choas was sponsoring NRA life memberships awhile back. Great company to support. Just my two cents.
