Guys help me out here - I purchased some new cases for my dad's Remington 700 BDL Varmiter - rifle was made in 1967 or 68 - probably had 300 rds put through so far.
So today I hauled out the rifle got the new cases and some 52 gr AMAX and the COL gage setup and WHOA NELLIE! something is askew. Checking the Hornady and the Speer books of knowledge the COL is listed as 2.350
I come up with 2.420 to the point where the bullet engages the lands did the measurement 4 times and all are within .002 of each other. Checking a 50 gr Sierra HPBT I get @ 2.465
So what should I do?? just load to COL period or subtract .020 off my gaging and use that as the COL for each particular bullet I want to test for setting up a load for the rifle??
