I have been interested in the new Swarovski modular system. I really like the ability to break down the scope for packing and storage purposes. However, the starting price at +/- $3000 for the 65 mm objective and +/- $4000 for the 95 mm is pretty steep. Does anybody know if other manufacturers are planning to follow suit and create modular systems? Does Vortex, Zeiss, Leica, Kowa, etc..... currently have plans to come out with similar systems?

You could buy all 3 Vortex Razor spotting scopes for $3500 and cover all the sizes. I bet you are getting 90 to 95% of the image quality of the big boys out of that. My 85mm is fantastic IMO. That would actually be a pretty good option. I was just playing with the 50mm at a sporting goods store today. It is on my to buy list. Neat little back packing spotter.

Have you looked through the Nikon 50ED? And if so how do they compare? |

Nikon has a modular scope in the works with the Monarch label. I stopped by to see it at SHOT, but they said production has been pushed back several months.
The idea is objective, prism, and eyepiece modules with good digiscoping options. |

I owned the ED50 and currently have the razor 50 for evaluation. Performance is very similar. |

My worry would be since the scope is used in dusty and damp environments. How do they keep it sealed to protect the inter workings with out adding several lens elements that would reduce brightness and clarity to seal each module when disassembled and packed. I have a C-90 that has this issue and it is a real problem to clean.

That is actually a pretty impressive spotter. Last April, I spent some time behind Nikon
20-60x85 EDG VR Fieldscope and the 50ED I was very impressed with both of them. I still like Swarovski ATX / STX
Spotters better, but these are pretty good. Niether of those Nikon's in my opinion have the peripheal FOV like Swaro has accomplished.
