Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows if Nikon is planning to discontinue the current Fieldscope ED models in 82mm and 60mm?

I owned that 82ED spotter for a while, and compared it side by side to some really nice spotters, i.e. Zeiss 85 T FL, and it more than held it's own optically and in the build quality category.  The biggest problem with it is the narrow FOV of the 25-75x eyepiece.  Why Nikon never did market a WA zoom for it had many hunters and birders baffled.  You had a world class optic that never got any attention, primarily due to, IMO Nikon Sport Optics being pretty clueless, especially their marketing dept.  Then they brought out the abomination of a spotter called the Nikon EDG, which has to be the ugliest, heaviest spotter known to mankind, trying to compete with the big boys.  A miserable failure is what it is, just like the EDG binos.   I doubt Nikon SO even knows what they're going to do.

End of rant, flame away boys.

Thanks for the reply.  I am leaning toward getting an 82ED but was wondering if Nikon was doing an 'end of line' on these scopes due to the fact they are getting pretty long in the tooth.  I agree the FOV on the 25-75x eyepiece is narrow and the eye relief is not great, but the glass is very high quality.  It also is pretty easy to mount my Nikon slr onto it.
