I shoot a lot of milsurp calibers for which PPU is/was the only source of remotely affordable ammo, so I see a lot of different PPU cases.  If I want accuracy, I have to do some serious sorting on PPU cases, based on weight, wall thickness in the neck, etc.

I have to do the same for Remington, et al.

Once I figured out how much time that takes me I started using Lapua as much as I can.  It is expensive, but saves me a huge amount of time.

I agree on that.

I find Lapua is nice solid consistent contact and extremely repeatable as far as resistance and feel, Norma is Crazy as well...

I only buy brass not loaded so I maybe would say that might be the difference...Dont know though

I think the Federal issue may mostly be with "small letter" .223, as their big letter stuff (ala FC 12) is ok and their other rifle brass seems fine to me.

Bolt Rifle: Top 2 would be WW and R-P, although have much Federal and Hornady a
Auto Rifle: coffee cans full of milsurp... gotta love LC
Least fave is PPU (nny)

Pistol Brass: Federal pistol brass is excellent, as is Rem, WW and Starline is my favorite, for when I feel like steaming something up to wrist arthritis- inducing levels.

I have very little Norma brass and no Lapua. I'm a range brass kind of guy... back in the not- too distant past when you could pick up all the brass you wanted at the ranges, i stocked up and have a lifetime supply of every flavor I shoot and more than a few that I don't (but might- it could happen.)

I'm like that on the golf course with leftover tees and lost golf balls. :) My performance is so bad on the greens it doesn't matter what tee or ball I use. They all sink and get lost the same.

I have so much brass in calibers I shoot that some headstamps will probably never get loaded. In most calibers, I'm able to segregate headstamps for individual rifles and then just neck size and bump shoulders as needed. For instance, it's no secret that I'm a fan of .30-06 and one rifle uses WW, another gets R-P,  FC, etc.

Some brass gets designated as "woods or walk- around" brass because I don't care if it gets lost, or not. It's great fun to go try to bust rocks on the side of the buttes around home from various distances and if a case gets lost in the tall grass, no biggie. I might not even look for them...

1. Nosler
2. Lapua
3. Winchester

B. Remington

I have good luck with 7-08 Winchester brass in both accuracy and longevity, but only after it is extensively sorted and prepped.  A lot of culls in every bag.

(I know this is an old thread) I recently bought some Nosler brass and wow- look what I've been missing all my life!
The only other new (rifle) brass I'd ever bought was Winchester and I thought it was great, compared to all the milsurp stuff I'd waded through over the years and the mixed stamp range brass I have buckets of.
I recently got a sack of fired Remington and it was so pitiful that I started a whole thread on it's uselessness. Not just my opinion, but some friends, as well. I mean taking your life in your hands kind of bad brass!

The Brass chart was pretty realistic for me, after my 15 reload on my Lapua brass I had 8 neck splits during resizing.

I've never bought Remington brass new, but have used range brass over the years. Last fall, I found a bit over 50 R-P .30-06 cases and they had such a high failure rate that I won't use them. They still had factory crimp marks prominent and an empty box was at the trash can ( I didn't explore it), so figured they were new. Since then, others have mentioned issues and a friend (who shoots more than most I know) has a very big problem with new R-P .25-06 brass, which is detailed in another thread. I'm surprised at the Nosler results, but haven't loaded mine but once and was impressed by the quality evident as new. Time will tell. For now, no R-P for me.

Haven't used Norma brass for over 20 years, but didn't get good case life then, nor did friends. At the time, I was really into seeing how hot I could load, so that had some bearing on case life, I'm sure.

Thanks for the charts.

I've only just started using new brass. Before it was always cases from factory ammo shot in the rifle I was loading for. I just picked up some Nosler brass for 30-06 and was dually impressed. I think this might be my go too brand. Very good brass for not a lot more than Winchester or Remington but quite a bit cheaper than Lapua. I'm still in shock after pricing Lapua. ShockedLoco

1- Lapua
2- Remington
3- Winchester
4- Lake City for .223 but PITA because of crimped primers.

Have got some Nosler and Hornady for my .338 Lapua but have not loaded enough to tell.  Bought it about the time that choices in powder got real slim so have not had a chance to play with it much.

Mostly load 7 BR and 6BR for IHMSA pistols and .308 for rifle.
