The Habicht Alternative?

The alternative to the SLC and EL roof prism models, is of course Swarovski’s traditional Habicht Porro prism binoculars that have been in constant production for over 70 years!

There are currently 3 centre focus choices in 8x30W, 7x42 and 10x40W. All 3 are available with a leatherette finish, and the last 2 are also offered with rubber armouring

Probably of most interest to hunters is the rubber armoured 10x40W. While it’s the most expensive of the Habichts, in comparison the SLC 10x42 is around 50% more expensive

and the EL 10x42 around double the price

The most comprehensive review of the 10x40 (in the leatherette version) can be found on Roger Vine’s site ScopeViews

Although Roger primarily writes from an astronomical perspective, much of his comment is generally applicable, and he also specifically addresses terrestrial use

One problem is that only a few Swarovski dealers keep the Habichts in stock, so you may not be able to try before you buy

However, there are also suitable second-hand alternatives, and I’ve just posted on Bird Forum explaining how to choose

See the thread ‘Second-Hand Habicht Porro’s To Use’

this is a 6 year old thread.
When you are dead, you don't know you are dead.It is difficult only for others.

It is the same when you are stupid.
