Hi Guys,
New member here. I found this site while researching what scope to buy. My club does informal 22 targets shoots at 50 and 100 yards.
I have a Mossberg 144 LSB that I will be using.
I’m trying to decide which power scope would be enough to see both targets at 50-100 yards with these 60 year old eyes.
I would like to have one with a adjustable AO.
I have been looking at the Weavers V series, the 16x and 24X. I have also read some good things about  the SWFA SS 10X42. What do you guys think?

Thanks,

strangms

Welcome to the OT!
Can you tell us max you want to spend. The AO will limit what you choose but the Weaver is a good choice!I have a 10x SWFA on one of my .22's & it has done very well by me out to 300yds.Remember it doesn't have AO but I can focus down to 10yds.

stickbow46,
Thanks for your help.
As for price, somewhere between $300-400.

If this is benchrest only and you would not be using the scope in low light or for hunting I would use the Super Sniper 20x or the 16x .  If you will use it hunting I would use the 6x SS or a Leupold Competition Target FX3  6x42

Urimaginaryfrnd,

This will  be for benchrest only. How does the Mil-Dot reticle do with targets?

So all the reading that I have done here, most people really like the SWFA SS  scopes.
I guessing that the SS and the Weaver V series in 16 and 24 are all good scopes?

I would lean towards the SS MRAD reticle over the Mil-Dot reticle.

And here is a link to all the SS reticles.

Stangms,

In my opinion the reticle lines on the Super Sniper are too thick for bench rest shooting and the mil dots become a distraction for trying to get a good group. I myself like the highest magnification scope that I can get for the distances that you are shooting. If the heavy reticle lines are OK with you then the super sniper line offers a good choise.

Regards,
dsr
