I'm looking for competitors to the SWFA 5-20x scope in optics quality within its price point.  Looking for FFP, mil/mil

Purpose is for a hunting/target rifle that I'm building.  It is built on a Savage Model 12 receiver with a Criterion stainless match 24" barrel with a light varmint contour in 260 Remington.  Still working on stock options but expect it will sit in a Manner's T-5 or possible GAP stock.

The rifle will serve double duty as a target/hunting rifle.  Hunting ranges will be inside of 300 yards, but target ranges will extend beyond 800.  I know a longer barrel would help at that distance, but it was a conscientious decision given its hunting role.

I currently have the SWFA 1-4x, 1-6x and 3-15x scopes, along with the Weaver Tactical 4-20x..  All are excellent scopes but I have a natural bent for SWFA tactical scopes.

Just trying to exercise some due diligence.

About the only one I can recall is the vortex razor.

Razor HD is a good one but price is another $500.

How's the Steiner Tactical 4-16x50 stack up?  34mm tube but lower top end

Steiner price is even higher than the Razor HD, but Bushnell's Elite Tactical 3-21x50 may be one of the competitors.

Always seem to come back to Ilya's article, which has good info on the three plus the Steiner Tactical

The Bushnell is about it in that range.  Add a few dollars and you are up to Nightforce or the new Bushy (maybe it's just me, but I can't see spending >$2k on a Bushnell optic) or Premier (LT) or Steiner.

On the 260, I had one and enjoyed it (sold it before I gave it a chance with better hunting bullets.)  The caliber is a solid performer well beyond 800 yards and the bullet choices are great, especially if you are a reloader.  If you don't reload, check out Southwest Ammo, they do great stuff in 260.

Is GAP making their own stocks now?  Over the years, I've tried most stock makers, and usually end up back at McMillan, but that is pure preference.

Manners and GAP got together and developed the Manner's GAT stock (Fat fingered it above).  Here is a link to their tactical stocks and the GAT is toward the bottom of the page:

Appreciate the info on Southwest Ammo.  I've typically used Stars and Stripes Ammo (appears to be out of business) and Precise Ammo for my custom loads, but gets pricey even when you are providing the brass.  I'll give Southwest a call.
