Picked up a M&P 15 22 in a trade deal and looking for optics.  Red dot is an  obvious choice, but one of the purposes is a training weapon for my AR, which wears a SWFA 1-6x scope.  Ranges will be typically inside of 25 yards with the need to make precision shots at 100 yards.

Looking for a 1-4X/1-6X scope that has illumination and mildot/BDC type reticle.  Capped turrets is fine since after I get it sighted in at 50 yards, I'll use the reticle for any holdover.  Prefer to stay at the 1X low end (maybe 1.5x)

I'll eventually get another SS 1-6X scope for consistency, but not in the position to do so now.

Like to stay below $300 and ones I am considering include  the following:

- Leatherwood CMR
- Weaver Kaspa tactical 1.5-6x
- Optisan 1-4x Mamba
- Bushnell 1-4X
- Burris Fullfield TAC
- Leupold 1.5-4x Mark AR w/firedot

I can repurpose this scope to another rifle once I get the SWFA 1-6X, so not worried about losing this investment.

Any opinions on the candidates above?  Any to add?

I really like my Leatherwood CMR, great reticle and optical quality for the price.  I bought it from The Sample List, complete with everything and it appeared to never have been mounted.  No regrets.  It has been on several ARs and currently resides on my Ruger SR 556C where it will stay for a while longer until I replace it with a SWFA SS 1-6x after which it will move to my Colt M4 22.  It has a lot of features for the money, repeatable turrets and elevation zero lockout.  Illumination generally is not bright enough for consistent daylight use if that is important to you, otherwise very worthy of consideration.  I have not used the other models you list though I have had years of excellent service from all my Leupold and Burris scopes.

I noticed there was Leatherman CMR on the Samplelist and have generally read good things on the forum.  Effective illumination is one of my higher priority items.  I use the illumination at the 1X power as a red dot like scope, but less of a factor as ranges extend out

SVT:  Thanks for the link.  Hard to argue with a $149 package that includes a pretty decent scope.  I've ordered this one.  If it doesn't work out, SWFA's great service will address any issues.

I put a Weaver V3 1-3x20 on my M&P15-22.

I have a lot of mileage with the CMR and I think that is the best option in this price range.

There are currently two suitable Demo A grade Leatherwood CMR scopes on The Sample List for $249.  I started mine out on a .45-70 three or more years ago to see if I could break it.  It is still going stong, has good glass and a functional reticle so I continue to be a fan and use is as a floater and loaner in a SWFA S SALT mount for ARs.  It has put a bunch of rounds down range.

Old thread but the Optisan Mamba actually worked out pretty well given the price point.  My son used it on a jack rabbit hunt with reasonable results on moving targets.

It is a decent optic to mount on a fun gun.  Seemed to hold up pretty well and adjustments were accurate when we were dialing in the scope.

there is a 1.25-5x from nikko stirling in the targetmaster line. its mil dot reticle with moa adjustments.

I just bought a 1-4x leupold vx-1 turkey plex. its got 100y parallax but I couldn't find anything with side focus or 50y parallax. its a shotgun scope but its going on a 10/22 international. I wanted something with no front bell for the right look on this rifle.
