Glass and Glass Coatings. The Big Sky is a step above the standard SII
We measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a crayon, and cut it with a chainsaw.

I've had a number of SII Big Sky scopes and currently have a 3-12x42 on a 25-06 that I use as my Whitetail and Pronghorn gun. The best attributes of the Big Sky are the clarity and brightness as well as spot on tracking of the adjustments. The standard duplex, while adequate, is a bit on the thin side for big game in low light but is outstanding for varmint and target shooting.

I am torn between the S2 4-16x42 big Sky and Conquest 4,5-14x50, It is for a 223 I use for Varmints only. Some are long shots. I have 2-Zeiss Victory FL Diavari  T and a Leica, a few older Kahles and a few Trijicons. I have never had a Conquest or Sightron, I love Zeiss and Leica but this is a gun I abuse some just because of the conditions, walking.

Well I don't have any in that power range but I do have a 3-9 Conquest, 3.5-10 Kahles AH, and 3-9 Trijicon among others. I would say the glass in all of them is very close with brightness probably going to the Sightron and clarity and contrast to the Kahles. I prefer the adjustments of the Sightron over the Conquest as they are similar to the Trijicon. The Conquest are only marked with hash marks unless you find one with target turrets. I've been running a fixed 16x SS with Mil-Quad reticle on my heavy 223 varmint rig for the last couple months. For strictly target and varmint they are a great choice as well. Their quality far exceeds their price.

I believe the 4-16 Big Sky will have the same tall turrets I had on my 24x Big Sky. Good useable turrets with positive clicks.

The Big Sky has hydrophobic coatings which is VERY nice. My Big Sky is on par with my Conquest optics wise on everything but the reticle (Zeiss has great etched reticles). The Big Sky is a hair below my Z3's and Kahles (I do mean barely). I also think it is better than my Bushnell 4200 and WAY above my Leupolds (VX3 and VXR) as well. That's my experience with the Big Sky when comparing scopes of similar value. Don't have experience with the SII because for just a tad more you get Zact7 and hydrophobic coatings on the Big Sky. If it weren't for the reticles I would prefer it to the Zeiss Conquest by a hair due to the hydrophobic options. Good luck!

I prefer the image of the Sightron Big Sky or SIII.  To my eyes it gives a tremendous advantage of depth distinguishing or 3-D ness... Don't know what the proper term for this is.
