Most of our hunting is done below Monroe, around Pageland and Chesterfield SC and back across the state line into NC. |

That's a great price for corn. It is in the high 3s to mid 4s here in SD. |

it might not be that high right now... but it was... which is why there isn't any CRP now. I'm hoping like heck that the James River watershed gets to keep its CRP... hoping it gets good and I can hunt it with some birds in near future!

That is an interesting option for one of my other rifles that I may have to check out. We've had really good success with their feeder lights. I have looked at some of the other scope lights sold here locally and they left a lot to be desired. You're right, the hogs don't seem to pay any attention to the green lights. I'm getting ready to head back down in a few minutes to hunt the next 3-4 nights to see if they'll cooperate. We don't hunt much in daylight much any more since the pigs have gone almost entirely nocturnal. We just try to get in and get set up before dark. Wish me luck! |

I am sure you'd be happy with the VX-R4-12x50, from all reports they're great scope. I nearly had one but opted for the Meopta meopro 3.5-10x44 4C instead. On the last full moon I took it out on a culling mission . It was great, could see out past 300m but kept all shots inside 200m and that little red dot sure helped. |

Not to derail the thread too much, but a few years ago Nebraska Game & Parks hired a helicopter and took out 200-300 hogs (can't remember the exact number) along the Republican River down by Alma. I've talked to people that deer hunt in that area and they've been seeing them off & on for quite a few years. There have also been reports of feral hogs in Platte County. I've got a feeling they'll start becoming a problem in the near future.
To the OP's question...I don't have any experience with that particular scope, but I do venture to Texas every year to kill a few hogs and all I can say is any quality scope with good low-light performance will serve you well. Listen to these guys. They know what they're talking about. |

I have two Trijicons and two VX-Rs. I hunt hogs here in Texas several times a year, pretty much exclusively at night using the moon. The only advantage that the Leupolds have over the Trijicons is price. They are both a good buy for you're money though. The advantage that the Trijicon has over every other scope is that you can shoulder it and fire-right now. There are no buttons and no dead batteries. The illumination is always perfect and it doesn't flare on the lens at all. I would say that the glass is a bit better than VX-R glass, not a huge difference to my eyes though. If your on a tight budget get the Leupold, you'll like it. If you can afford a few hundred extra, get the Trijicon, it's a better scope in every way, in my opinion.
Trijicon 2.5-10X56 green mil dot . This is the best hog hunting scope I own. If I hunted from a stand this is all I'd use. Right now it's mounted on a custom M70 300 WSM. This scope is bulky and heavy as you'd expect with a 56mm objective. Trijicon 3-9X40 green plex. This is mounted on a Sako A7 270 WSM. If I only had one rig for hogs, this would be it. Light weight is one of my priorities, and this rig is accurate and powerful as well. Leupold 2-7X33 #4 reticle. This is mounted on my Colt LE6900. This is a light and compact AR and In my opinion this scope is perfect for it. This is my primary coyote rifle when I'm not using a shotgun. Leupold 4-12X50 ballistic firedot. This is mounted on my Armalite AR10. This rig is heavy. I used to use this rifle for hog hunting but it mostly punches paper now. I'm not a huge fan of this reticle. |

First off, thanks for everyone's input on scope selection. I went with the Leupold VX-R 3-9x50 CDS w/FireDot reticle. Got it mounted and sighted back in and took it hog hunting. Over the past two weekends I have killed 5 hogs with the setup and truly love it. When the hogs come under the feeder at night, put the illuminated dot on the pig you want behind it's ear and squeeze the trigger. Bang-Flop! For me this is the perfect setup. Again, thanks for all of ya'lls help on scope selection.

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead.It is difficult only for others.
It is the same when you are stupid. |
