I'm trying to help my friend find a scope. He just got a 308 Mauser   rifle. He plans on using the rifle for black bear as close as 40yds, ground hogs and yotes as far as 300 yards. I don't see a shot being taken farther than 350yds. He said some day he would like to go elk hunting with this gun as well. We were looking at 3-9s but we were unsure if it would be enough power. He wants something with 1" tube and a 44mm objective or smaller. He doesn't want to spend more than $300. Thank you for your help.

I would look at these as the reticles would be suitable for bear in low light and decent enough for chucks and coyotes out to 300 yards. The glass is pretty good for the price range also.

This unit has Rain Guard too, I believe. Nice feature as well. Tahqua and I LOVE our 3-9x's. Wink
