Looking for a scope that I can use for load development and targets (.22lr -30-06 )only.

Thinking fixed may be my best bet to keep price to $700 or less.

Do you think the 20 SS would be to much ?

Load development would be for 200 yards.

Never seen a SS in person so I have no clue.

I've never used the 20x SS, but I'm sure it would work. Might have more problems with mirage with the 20x though.

I would look at the 16x SS. Or in my opinion the SS HD 10x for $650 off the sample list would be a great scope.

Also I would do my load development at 100yds and not 200yds. Because you are minimizing the variables by shooting at 100yds. Such as wind.

I will need a scope for P-Dog hunting so maybe I should just combine funds and buy a 6-24x variable which would allow me to use it at various ranges, applications, etc

This is a nice scope. http://swfa.com/Vortex-65-20x50-Viper-30mm-Rifle-Scope-P10822.aspx  I think it would fit all your intended uses well.

I had one on a .223 WSSM for a while and really liked it.  Good glass, great adjustments.
