I'm new to the forum, and just wanted to share my observations on this scope that I recently ordered. The SWFA SS 3-15X42. Please keep in mind that I am no expert. I am only someone who has done a lot of competitive shooting, and I am a hunter. But I like to have the best optics that I can afford. I was hopping back and forth between forums, looking at reviews of this scope and the IOR 10X42 ( IOR variables are too pricey for my wallet), trying to decide which was going to replace the scope on my custom 6.5X55. It used to wear a Burris Black Diamond 6-24X50. The SWFA won out, mainly because of the feature set, and the rave reviews that SWFA's CS gets. A very important consideration, I might add. I really wasn't sure what to expect. My brother, years ago bought a Tasco Super Sniper 10X42. It's OK, but the glass wasn't really anything to write home about. And the turret adjustments have a mushy feel to them. I compared the 3-15X42 SS to my two old 1" tube IOR 6X42 tacticals, my brothers old SS 10X42, and the Burris BD. All comparisons were done on equal magnifications. First the SWFA vs. the IOR. Granted, the IOR's are 1" tubes, but side by side with other, more expensive 30mm tube optics, they are right there with them. The IOR's have a very slight edge in sharpness, brightness, and color resolution. And I mean VERY slight. Both are clear and sharp all the way to the edge. I love IOR's glass, but I don't feel that I've lost anything with the SWFA. Hat's off to them. Side by side with the Burris BD, the only thing that the SS has a dis-advantage in is brightness. Again, it is only SLIGHTLY. But it isn't and equal comparison, given the BD's 50mm objective. Everything else, advantage SWFA SS. And against the old 10X42, It isn't even a contest. The new SS scopes are leaps and bounds optically from the old scopes. The adjustments are audible and firm, not mushy feeling like the old 10X is. And finally, I really like the Mil-Quad reticle. I am a big fan of the IOR MP-8. I wasn't sure how I was going to like the MQ, but it really won me over. I have read some of the complaints about it, but for me, I think that it may actually have a slight advantage when ranging target due to the points on the diamonds giving a finer reference. The diamonds also can bracket the target. It is really fine on the lower magnifications, but in a FFP variable power scope, you have to balance it out, or at the higher magnifications, it will be to thick. Personally, I think they did it right. SWFA, you have hit it out of the park with this scope. For those of us who are out of the mid, and top tier optics price range, this is a BIG WIN. If anyone is on the fence about buying one, don't be, just get one.

With the 3-15 and 6×42 fixed SWFA SS scopes how important is the parralax adjustment?? I mean for when the variable is set for less than 10x . . I can understand that for long range it may be useful but for hunting and shots under 100 yards.
Thanks in advance.

Or put another way. With either of these scopes do I need to adjust the Parralax for a shot at 10 meters then for one at 60 meters.

I did a specific check to answer your specific question. If your on 3 power, set the parallax at 8 meters. If set on 4 power, set it at 15. It is not as sharp as adjusting to the specific range, but for hunting, I believe that it would be fine. At close distance you don't need to be able to count individual hairs on your quarry. Above 4 power, you need to adjust the parallax to the distance. From 100 on up, you can adjust to the specific range or set to infinity. Specific parallax will be sharper. But the infinity setting is VERY useable for hunting.

Thank you. The 3-9 is starting to look better and better for alot of the hunting that I do up here. Especially calling predators where they can show upreal close sometimes.
