The old school method to freeze the action of humming bird wings is to use FLASH to do it. Nice work Ted. Jeff great composition.

Yep, Ted's showing off.
Reminds me of a 2 day air show I was in. A guy was taking pictures of all the WWII aircraft as they made their passes down the runway on the first day. The second day he was showing off his work. His film was so fast that the props appeared to be stopped in the pictures, and the detail was so clear you could see the rivets. It was almost eerie to see a still B-29 just hanging in the air. Catching that kind of detail with a humming bird is great. |

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Yeah, I'm sure you could drop your shutter speed WAY down after the judicious application of said BB gun! |

Well, it was actually easy. The bird set up shop right next to our church camp dining hall and the area was closed with some marking tape. I just placed the camera back a ways and zoomed in tight. I just now looked up what they feed their babies. I never knew hummingbirds will catch insects. Then they regurgitate a mash of bugs and nectar. |

75% of what they eat is insects.

Here's one I took a couple months ago with a Canon SX700. It's a nifty little camera with a 30X optical zoom. |
