Good observation, Craig! I like to add a bit of "surreal" effect to shots like this that have rusty old abandoned cars, machines, etc in rural settings, as it emphasizes the details I want and softens the details I don't. I got the "painterly" effect you refer to in post by tone mapping in Photomatix followed by using the "Indian Summer" filter in Color Efex Pro to give it a warm glow, so it looked a little more "autumn." You can't see it very well here, but on the full size image, when you zoom in, there's a grasshopper sitting on the left headlight. |
