Looking for an inexpensive 4x-ish scope of decent quality?

I've not had that particular crossfire but have had others that worked out well.   Vortex's customer service  is exceptional should you ever have an issue.  I think it would be very serviceable for a kid.

Graham, would you personally take the Votex over the Weaver 2-7x you and I have?
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

It be a toss up really, I've not used that particular Vortex but I've been pleased with the crossfires I've used in the past.   I didn't look up the cost of the weaver lately but if close, I'd go weaver, just didnt' think of it.

I am pleasantly surprised with that 2x7 vortex that I purchased another for a 204 ruger.

Thanks for the recommendation

The big reason to go Vortex with a kid is the no fault warranty.
