Greetings, and Merry Christmas!

I'm a big Steiner fan, and I'm eyeing a few models right now. I'm not sure which one I will choose.

I would love to have a pair of 7x50 military Steiners, but my problem with that is the same as with a Nikon SLR: It's so big that there will be many times I will not have it/them with me, because the nuisance outweighs the benefit. Same goes for a pair of 8x30s, which I also would love to have. I would not want a Nikon DSLR without a Canon point and shoot in my pocket, and I would not want Steiner 7x50s without a compact pair in my pocket. The compacts can always be with me, and are not a nuisance to carry around. How many times have you been out for a walk and wished you had a camera, but didn't want the hassle of carrying extra baggage, so the Nikon sat on a shelf at home?

By the way, I love Steiners partly because they are so ugly! Just like a Hummer. It's a beautiful thing!

So, the pairs that I am seriously considering are the T28 Tactical 10x28s, and the T42 Tactical 10x42s.

Steiner offers ARDs only for 30mm and 50mm objectives. There are ARDs offered for scopes which might fit these models, but I'm not sure. Nikon has a 42mm ARD for its Nikon scope: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171554638795?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT.

Before I go any further in my deliberations, I need to know if a 28mm objective produces glint. Since ARDs are made for the 8x30, I must assume that the 10x42s will produce glint. I know where I can have a pair of ARDs custom made, so that solves one problem.

I would just like some guidance from some who have experience with similar models, and can tell me about the glint from these sizes.

I have never had a pair of Steiners, but I have dreamed of it for 30 years. I'm kind of a life-long Bushnell-hater. I hate cheap stuff. I have friends who think that a pair of binos for $350 is stupid. I think they just don't understand.

I should clarify my question. I know that all smooth glass has glint. My question is regarding the smaller sizes of objective lenses, and how that effects the significance of glint, if at all. A smaller objective lens may be set back inside the frame enough that the glint may be negligible.

I'm puzzled that Steiner only offers ARDs for 30mm and 50mm objectives, yet other models are made for and used by police and military. If a 28mm rifle scope produces glint, and a sniper wants to prevent being seen, he uses an ARD. If another officer with him is surveiling with 10x28s, would he also want ARDs?

One of the reasons for my OP was that I was wondering if some smaller objectives do not produce significant glint, or if for some reason ARDs are not necessary. Why else would ARDs for Steiners be limited to 30mm and 50mm?
