I can't find any good SWFA documentation on the differences in the product lines they sell. A customer would think that there would be documentation providing information on the exact differences between the classic and HD lines. I am interested in the a straight 10x scope but do not have enough information to determine if I should spend the additional money for the HD line. What are the differences between: SWFA SS HD 10x42 Tactical 30mm Riflescope Stock # - SSHD10X42MQ $799.99 SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Riflescope Stock # - SS10X42MQ $299.95 What aspects of the HD scope add $500 to the cost? I am trying to understand if I would benefit by purchasing the HD version or if the Classic scope would be just fine for 100-500m sport shooting. Somewhere there should be a comparison of attributes and qualities of the two line and similar products to let your customer make more informed decisions. Is the classic line still being produced or is this old stock? |

The classic is a good scope that is still being produced. The HD model has updated internals, and much better glass.

If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

Good to know that the Classic line is still in production.
I gathered that the glass was better in the HD line, but hoped to be able to qualify how much better or how that better glass impacts my expected use. I could buy two classics and have money left over for other things compared to the HD model. That being said does anyone have time behind both that can provide a description of the quality differences? My only current optic reference is a 27 year old higher end Bausch and Lomb 6-24x40 1" tube on my 7mm Mag. It definitely has it limitations. If I would be happy with the Classic line I could get two and possibly replace this old scope.

I've used the Classic, own the HD. For your defined purpose (not a lot of description) the Classic will serve just fine. Glass quality differential between the two will not be highly apparent at your stated ranges. The HD has better low light functionality, but the Classic is fine for most usages… not really an issue, certainly not a game changer for sport shooting. I've used the HD on a number of different rifles, up to my 50 BMG… tracking is as good as there is and I never saw any difference with the Classics I've used… the internals on the HD are "beefed up" and there is a noticeable difference in sound and feel with the HD… once again, not a game changer. Right now the HD is sitting on my CZ700… a superb match. For that rifle and for my planned usages of it, the Classic would probably serve me just as well. If you need more refined detail at longer ranges, the HD is "the bomb". My intention for the CZ700 is precision shooting out to a max of 800yards, generally within 600. It will go farther at need, but I have other combos for longer ranges.
The 10x Classics I have dealt with are fine scopes. Based upon what you have stated of your intended uses, buy two and be happy… they are very good.

If you go to the members review section and I believe there are some reviews on both starting around page three.

I have owned and used both, I like the turrets on the HD much more than the original. The glass is better, how much depends largely on circumstances.
The classic will work, but I would buy the HD if only for the improved turrets.

Both Classic and HD are fine scopes.
I much prefer the turret feel on the HD and the improved contrast in the image. The HD does have a somewhat more noticeable tunnel effect, so if that bothers you, you will be better served by the Classic. If you spin turrets all the time or use scopes in low light, go with the HD. Otherwise, get the Classic. For the money it is hard to beat and you can also consider getting a 10x and a 12x for different applications. ILya

I've owned & shot both I agree with everything above,I also want to mention the tunneling thing Ilya mentioned, that forced me to stay with the classic. I also like the fact that when I'm shooting .22lr I can see down to 10m as opposed to the 10X HD that goes down to 50m,thats SS specs.Real world for me is 20foot vs 110foot.
I like the side focus also,it was worth the extra $100 bucks to me.
