I have a vintage 1 inch Stith mount on my Savage 99.  I bought a Weaver v4.5 to go in the mount.  I got it to work but the length from the turrets to the adjustment ring is short and only allows me to insert about 1/2 inch into the tube.  Parralax is seeming to give me fits also at 100 yds.  Very disappointed with my choice.  After more research I now know a Weaver K 2.5 will work.  I have been told that these early scopes were not gassed which is good as I have to remove the rear ocular to put the rear ring of the mount over the tube.

My question is other than the Weaver will a Lyman 2 1/2 work as well and is it not gassed.  I have also heard the early scopes were very fussy on parallax

Yeah, and the reticles were not permanently-centered, either, so it's possible to send your crosshairs up into the edge of your VIEW....

Believe it or not, the German Weatherby Imperial scopes were never permanently-centered up until they were discontinued in the mid-seventies!
