I just purchased the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24X mildot scope from SWFA, but it is on backorder so I haven't recieved it yet.  For any of you who own it, Chris, or Brady, what type are the mil-dots?  are they round or oval?  I'm thinking of getting the mil-dot master, but the mil-dots on it are oval.  Will this make a difference if the Bushnell's are round?  Will the mil dot master work for that scope , and, if it does, is it worth it for small woodchuck/prairie dog sized game? Thanks for any comments.

The Bushnell scope you are referring to has the round mil-dot system. With the mil-dot master it does not matter which mil-dot system you have I hope this will help you out.

The Mil Reticles Breakdown

The following is an illustration of the increments into which two types of mildot reticles can be broken down.

Round, US Army-Style Mildot Reticle

Oval, USMC-Style Mildot Reticle

Basically 1 mil is 1 mil.  The distance between the center of a round dot to a round dot is 1 mil.  The distance between the center of an oval dot to an oval dot is 1 mil.

I was wondering if someone could help me out. I recently purchased a Winchester Model 70 Coyote in a 22-250 cal. I've been looking for a good scope to put on it. I basically would be using it for target shooting and maybe praire dog shooting. I kinda like the looks of SS, with the high turrets, but was curious if the crosshairs would be fine enough for small targerts a long range. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, maybe you should start a new thread under varmint scopes with your question so that the guys that know what they're talking about will see it and answer it...the reason is because this mil dot thread I opened has been open for a long long time...I'm not sure if anyone looks at it anymore.

In trying to help you out,....I seriously considered the SS for a long time, but through much research and talking to people like brady and chris, I decided to go with the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 mil-dot.  Seems to be a great scope for the price if you're worried about prices.  It probably has more clarity than the SS too.  I couldn't tell you from experience though.  Sorry I can't offer advice, but definitely ask brady or chris or anyone who knows.

good luck, how does that coyote shoot?  it seems like a really nice gun.  I have a savage 12bvss which shoots really well, but is not fun to carry in the woodchuck fields. have a nice day
