Would this be to much scope for moose hunting in the bush? Would really appreciate feedback from experienced hunters. Thanks

6X on the bottom in is to much for any hunting situation in the "bush" IMO.   I'd want a low end no higher than 3X but prefer 2X or even 1X.  I'd want illuminated and a bold reticle as well.    "When I think bush I think thick cover..... your definition may be different.  Anytime there could be dangerous game I want to be able to be on target quick... Trying to find an object at 6X at less than 25yds ain't easy and sure ain't fast.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I think I purchased too much scope.

You can always add a small red dot to the top of your rings or on an offset mount for close in shots.  Not ideal or conventional for a hunting rifle but works for the purpose.

In my opinion, yes.   You would be much better off with the 2.5-10x44 when it comes to hunting in the bush.  You may want to consider going even lower.  I would keep the minimum power range to the max of 3x.  The lower the power, the faster the target acquisition.  Saying that you are hunting in the bush implies that shots could literally be off the end of your barrel.  The last thing you want to do when you have a record book size bull within 30 or 40 yards is having to search for the vitals at 6x, if you have it turned down all the way, when you only have a split second to make the shot.  By the way, not to state the obvious but never walk around in the bush with your scope cranked above its lowest power.  Another consideration is that if you are in moose country then you are in brown bear country.  Your life could very well depend on how quickly you can acquire your target and pull the trigger.

Mike, I hunt, allot, my wife would say far too much; and in hunting situations, I seldom go near the top of my magnification range. And that counts double in dense vegetation.

What are reasonable estimates of hunting range for you (meaning at what range is your rifle, your ammo, your skill, and your confidence sufficient for a high probability success?)  With that, we can help on picking a scope.  Personally, for hunting in woods and dense vegetation, I prefer a true 1X - or iron sights.

The red dot mounted with a higher mag scope works, I have a few in similar setup, but it is one more piece of gear, more weight, more zeroing, more training, and another thing to fail at a bad time.

Thanks for your feedback. My wife thinks along the same lines as your wife when it comes to hunting too much. Great thing is my 18 yr old son is really into crossbow for deer, lol I purchased a 30 06 Tikka T3. I am firing 180 grain round. I am an avid bow hunter for deer, going out for the first time for moose. We are heading out post rut, in mid November.

I have been hunting bigger game for 20 years. I have never hunted with a scope over 10x on the top end. Most of my hunting scopes are 3-9x. I have killed deer and elk from 20 to 400ish yards. I run my scopes on low mag and most of the time shoot from that low end

I have hunted the bush in AK a couple of times and shots can be anywhere from a few feet to 300 yds.  To me, the perfect AK bush scope would be something in the 1.5-6 or even better the 1.5-8.

Sort of an interesting story along these lines.  I went moose hunting in the bush of AK last month.  The friend that I went with has a house that butts right up against some flats around the Matanuska river.  We went hunting out on the flats the morning before I was to leave.  We stalked a moose most of the morning but was never able to get a shot.  On the way out we found very fresh brown bear tracks.  Based on the spread of the front and back paws, it was about 8 feet long.  The tracks were so fresh, we were not sure whether he was stalking us or the moose we were after.  Anyhow, a week after I got home, I got a text message from my friend telling me that his neighbor killed the bear and it was an 8 footer.  What brings this story into perspective of this conversation is that the bear popped out of the brush at 20 feet.  The neighbor  would have been a dead man except the bear did some posturing in that it gave the neighbor a shot at the vitals.  Not sure why brown bears do it but sometimes they turn sideways to you before they attack to give you a sense of how big they are.  Thats the theory at least of why they do it.  The bear then turned toward him and he put one in the chest and it dropped.  The moral of the story is that had the neighbor had the vortex 6-24x50 scope on his rifle, he would most likely not be alive today.  Food for thought. Pun intended.

If it were me I would use either a 2-7 ,3-9,1-4 like maybe the SWFA Classic illuminated one or a straight 4 power.

Will be a lighter more streamlined package as well.
With the exception of the Swfa  illuminated just get a standard duplex.

4x will be plenty of power for moose use ! LOL

Phil Shoemaker  a renowned Alaskan bear guide uses a 2x Leupold.

Practice shooting with both eyes open and just bringing the rifle up to your shoulder and basically Putting the scope between you and the game.
Just like holding your finger between yourself and say the tv ,you are looking at the tv but can still see your finger.
