Had one. Used it for a short time on 30-06 and 7mmSTW, then used it for a target for my 458 Lott. Much better use than as an optic. But that is a set of one… some people really seem to like them.

I have that one on a Savage 17HMR. It has the tall, capped "target" turrets and mil reticle. It is OK at 100 yards until you get past ~15/18 power. After that it gets dim and slightly blurry. There are better scopes out there. The turret clicks are mushy and wiggle between clicks. It was the one I could afford at the time. I messed up and got a scope with "just ok" glass and high magnification to compensate for not having a good spotting scope. Lesson learned. Don't take this the wrong way, the scope is usable and it hasn't slowed the fun of shooting my rifle.

I would classify this one as "good". Not "great", but "great" for the price:

Over the years, I have had several Simmons scopes. The glass was OK for the price, but not one ever held up on a rifle with recoil. They may be OK on a rim-fire.

Lots of scopes better than Simmons. Check out the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 4.5-14x44. I bought one back when they said use it for a year and if you don't like it we'll buy it back. I now have two of them. Only downside IMO is the length. It's a pretty long scope. http://swfa.com/Bushnell-45-14x44-Legend-Ultra-HD-Rifle-Scope-P53009.aspx |
