Recently I invested what to me is a great deal of money on a premium PCP air rifle (air arms S410E with a select walnut stock). The rifle and the hand pump together ran about $1300... I mounted on it the best scope the supplier had listed.... an Option Zero 6x24 50mm illuminated milldot.... I'm told this is a new line of air rifle scopes.

While I'm very happy with the rifle, I'm afraid this scope is not going to be the best final choice.... I have found a line of air rifle scopes marketed out of the UK called Pellpax and one feature that they have that I really like is a pellet drop compensator... I'd like to get into "field target" shooting and I think my rifle will certainly cut it. I know these Pellpax scopes are one of the first choices in Europe where air gunning is alot bigger sport than it is here in the US.... The problem is that as far as I know there isn't a US distributor for Pellpax and the European and UK distributors won't ship over seas.... So, how do I get a Pellpax or an equivalent (or a dedicated "field-target" scope) here in Colorado?

I will paste the link to the supplier in the UK on a later post if thats kosher with the SWFA staff?

No problem posting the link.  I would get on one of the forums in the UK and see if you can get an individual to send you one.

PELLPAX scopes - Most guys in the UK (and Spain )would DROOL at what you have in the USA. Cant say I'd even consider a PELLPAX.

Take care with mag values - too high and it gets tough to "find" the target and if the EXIT PUPIL (Objective lens size divided by the magnification used) drops below 2 I find that the images deteriortaes FAST - Its all to do with the "EYE" - nothing to do with the scope. High mag makes teh depth of field very shallow so its good for rangefinding - BUT one the EP dropes the eye compensates so the effect is lessened.

Just been reading the LEATHERWOOD site. New line of scopes with USER defineable BDC turrets (UNI DIAL ) http://www.riflescopes.com/products/U8525X50MD/leatherwood_u ni-dial_8.5-25x50.htm

It's just my personal opinion - but ask the FT groups in the US too.

I use Daystates - have mainly HAKKO MP based scopes as they have 10m focus and a 30mm tube for loads of turret adjustment withot having to use adjustable mounts.  Playing with an AGS (made by Leapers) at the moment.

Have a 4-16*50 HORUS-H2 but it lacks magnification (a bit). The 6-26*56 DEBEN/HAWKE/HAKKO works well for me. The BSA Platinum 10-60*60 is a goodish scope - but I'd limit it to about 30mag (40 at most)

For 50metre shots I'd go for GOOD optics - the AA410 is accurate enough to take advantage of a Leupold EFR too and if you need more mag values than that then could speak to Premier Reticles and have them boost one for you.

My ROT -> SCOPE cost = Rifle cost/2 - more or less. I tend to go for better optics - I like to see what I'm shooting at so I go 1:1 on price just about.

If you're not going to use the AA really close in (i.e 30 metres or above) - take a look at the IOR 6-24*50.

Thanks for the info..... I've given up the idea of the pellpax, and am concidering Leupold EFR.
My S410E is alot more accurate than i expected and i'm definately going to need to put on a scope that is at least an equal to it. ( it put 4 into .9 moa @ 100yds on a windless day)

HMMM... so you've put a horus vision on an air rifle? that sounds like a very interesting idea. I take it that the ballistics progam that comes with the HV scope can be dialed down to pellet velocities and their miniscule BC's?... I think US Optics can put horus reticles in some of their higher vari-power scopes, but honestly $2200+ is a bit much for an air rifle scope...

Regards from Colorado

Horus works well an airguns (esp with HEAVY pellets). Here we have lower power limits than in the USA - so the fall is even more acentuated. 16 mag is OK for most things - and the reticle allows compensation for most normal (incl out to 100m) distances at 16mag. A Standard Horus is more than enough without panicing about USO (imagine an SN9 8-30 or SN3TPAL 6-30 with Horus) - I'd love to try it but I think it would result in divorce.

The Horus ballistics programs DO NOT cope with Airgun ballistics - but it is an easy thing to try and see - the advantage is that pellets are SO cheap.  Could be worth a call to Wes Harris @ HORUS - he had some H2 he was going to sell off "cheap".

Waiting to see an H45 reticle scope "in the flesh". This because the reticle marks are SO FINE on the H2 that the reticle is near enough invisible at less than 8 mag. Th H2 also has an offset "croshair" so that I had to make a custom mount up from scratch.

http://www.geocities.com/airecolabora/cwmhorus.htm - In Spanish - but the photos are multilingual

The EFR is a fine scope - though I freely admit I have problems with Leupolds - dunno why - my eyes dont like 'em. This could be a transmited light colour problem - I've had the same prblem with Zeiss and Swaravski - but S&B dont affect me.
