Is this simply how close you can be to an object where you can actually focus on it?

Does it have any other relevance?

That's about it. Normally it only matters to birders who like to get close.

Correct. At some point with any optic, an object becomes so close to you that it becomes physically impossible for the optic to mechanically compensate with the focusing lens(es) to bring the object being viewed into sharp focus. This is the min focus distance.

Being so new to the forum, I know I should keep my FINGERS shut. However, I like to stir the pot of creative juices AND because of special needs and circumstances, I will mention that Air Frame Alignment Scopes can focus on their own objectives. Of course, that's for the purpose of their own calibration. Still, it's pretty nif
