Which is the better binocular ?

 Leopold's Mojave BX-3 8X32 or Hawke Frontier ED 8X 32 for around $300?

Application: I only use for hiking and around ocean views from land.

Thx, Gerry from San Diego, CA

I don't think you can go wrong with either in that price range.

The correct answer is the 8x30 Nikon Monarch 7.  Extremely light in weight, and the best optical performance of anything in it's class under $500.  Better focus wheel too.  Can often be found for a bit more than $300.

It is a bit short on ER, so keep that in mind.  The Mojave is too.....

Thanks for the help. Forgot to ask about the M7.

Can someone tell me what is ER by the way?

Thx, Gerry

Both have more eye relief than the Nikon. I played with the Hawke a while back and found them to be pretty good...a pleasant surprise. I have a number of Nikons, but their scopes and binoculars have never impressed me.

Having had both the Mojave and Nikon M7, I have the Mojave.  It was Phil's Nikon M7 I had on hand at decision making time.  I bought the Review Mojave I had from Leupold and sent Phil's back.  However both are pretty good at that range.  Those should both be relatively easy to find locally at a brick & mortar store.  I'd try both and buy whichever one you happen to like.

The Hawke is likely very similar to the Vortex Talon.

Personally I'd recommend the Maven B3, but it is over your range at $500
