So last saturday I get out to the hunting club (bow season) and pin out. Drive ATV to a good spot for me to walk in a comfortable distance to where I wanted to climb, when I am about 100 Yards from where I want to be, I run into another hunter coming into the area from opposite direction. (in the dark).
I was like, hey what are you doing? He seemed surprised I was there, and then proceeded to tell me he would let me have the area, but that I needed to move my pin. When I went back to camp he comes and an apologized and starts in again about my pin location. I said look, there are 2700 acres out here, and you don't need to be hunting right on top of me. Well now I am a dick because I don't like this guy on top of me. I was like, look, the map isn't exact, and neither is my pin location, its the general area of where I am. That is the whole point of giving someone space and our lease calls for 1 hunter per 100 acres. Am I crazy, or would you be hacked someone was sitting 100 yards behind you during bow season?

Yep if that's what the rules are and you were pinned first I'd tell him to " FO " politely.

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead.It is difficult only for others.
It is the same when you are stupid. |

I ran into this same issue several years ago because the club I was a member of used a hand-drawn "map" of the place that wasn't remotely close to scale or proportionally correct. We marked our stand locations the same way as yours, with pins, but pin locations were a guess at best, made worse by neither the map nor the trails being accurate. The best way to solve the problem is to get a large laminated aerial photo of the place, mark all the stand locations with GPS waypoints, plot the waypoints on Google Maps/Earth, and you then have a more accurate representation of the stand locations. Once you establish all locations with GPS coordinates, everyone then knows exactly how far away all adjacent stands/blinds are before establishing any new stand/blind locations. Then establish a firm club rule on the minimum distance one can set a stand to any others, and conflicts are eliminated because the GPS doesn't lie.

Good, spatially accurate maps really help. However, sometimes (and this is always an issue on public land) you're just going to have to deal with it. I've had a hunter walk right into elk when I was about to shoot one and blow my shot. That's life. My main strategy is to be willing to go where other hunters won't.
In a lease situation, with money involved, no need to be a jerk, but plenty of right to be firm and strict.

What upset me about it is his attitude. Like you can just walk through the woods in the dark with a climbing stand and be exactly where you pin out. It's not possible, especially when you have to find a tree you can climb and be able to see too.
And when you get right down to it, distances on a map aren't exactly like being there. I ended up perhaps 50 yards from where I pinned out. What I did was use the property boundary, not the field that was hand drawn on the map. So my bet is I was actually quite accurate about my location. And he thought I drove all the way around the property, rather than hike in with the wind in my face from the back side, and shorter distance of travel for me. I swear.....
