I am a pistol guy, even though I own and shoot rifles fairly well.
It is probably a given among us to have several different handguns or rifles we would like to purchase in 2017.
But what would you like to achieve in your shooting skill set in the next year?
Do you set improvement goals?
Whether it is improving your presentation, offhand shooting or tightening your groups from the kneeling position, how do you plan on going about and making those improvements?
Maybe there is some gear that you want to buy in this next year that will help you with those personal challenges ... what accessories do you plan to add in the next year?
We typically see, I'm gonna buy this new handgun or I'm going to go hunting in this location for next year.
What do you want to get better at in terms of handgunning and or with rifles??? Whether it be match shooting, hunting, varminting, steel, SD, or even general plinking...
Do you have friendly challenges among your buddies, reaching certain goals or meeting certain challenges in terms of handgun in any type? Rifle or carbine shooting?
What do you want to get better at?
What are you willing to do to make it happen?

Handgunning. First of all, I'm willing to spend the money and time (and possibly replace a barrel) to fire at least 1000 rounds.
Reaction time is a factor...

I want to improve my precision. What I am really good at is a shorter distance snap shot, what I am not good at is shooting at distance.

I shot a deer 2 seasons ago that was about 200 yards away, with my 270, shooting superformance 130 gr SST. It was quartering away across a powerline going uphill, and where I hit it wasn't where I was aiming, but that could be the deer was walking.

In my mind, a bullet going 3000+ FPS doesn't take long to cover 200 yards, so... go figure.

I got a 700 Tactical 308 last year, so I want to learn to shoot it longer distances.

Put me in thick woods with one of my little carbine rifles in 708 or 308 and I am good. Long shot on a powerline, not so much.

I have a 200 yard range. I am growing out of it. I use field positions and home made shooting sticks and my favorite rifles and i hit 2-3" targets every time, sometimes 50 times in a row, with my 6mm Rem, 6.5x55, .375 H&H, and 338 Federal.  If i stay off espresso and Red Bull i can do it off-hand, sometimes.
I got my membership cards to a new club and shooting range, they have a 600 yard range and i have steel gongs. By the time summer comes, my gongs will be destroyed; by September 18 i will be ready for a 500 yard shot. I purchased 600 Lapua cases, 5,000 bullets, primers, and over 30 lbs or powder, for various calibers.  These days i play back yard sniper with my daughter. We shoot 9 mm empties from 20 yards away with air rifles, three position. She almost always wins. I need to win once in a while.

I competed in some MOST (Missouri Steel Tactical) rifle matches this year.  I want to improve on many different shooting positions.

Shooting rifle off-hand.

Not the slow fire High Power standing style shooting, but the off hand style shooting under time pressure withing 50 yards  and no time pressure up to 200 yards.  In practical terms, I want good CoM hits within 1.5 seconds at 25 yards and under, 2.5 seconds at 50 yards and 4.5 seconds at 100 yards.

It may sounds easy, but I am terrible at it, so there is a lot of room for improvement.  I am probably going to work on approach technique, but we'll see.  Perhaps, I can come up with something else that works for me.

One of the best shooters I know of (they guy behind the Art of the Rifle blog: http://artoftherifle.com/request-for-assistance-standing-groups/2014/12/request-for-assistance-standing-groups.html) is more or less my yardstick for this.  If I can get anywhere what he is capable of, I'll be happy.  In practical terms, 10MOA or better accuracy standing on longer shots is good enough for me.

Personal shooting goals for 2017:
Grouping the 357 Magnum Franken-Ruger from 750 to possibly 1000 yards.
Testing the Cold Shot MOAB mount past a mile on a rifle and a specialty pistol.
Group several SP's beyond 2K out to 2500 yards.
Get into better field shooting shape before June.  I had some rust on my shooting skills this past summer.
Shoot some 600 yard F-Class matches.
See how far I can make connections on 10" Steel with my MOA, FA, THOR, and DOMINATOR SP's from field positions.
Increase my speed and accuracy on 6" squares at various distances with my SD/CC handguns while moving.
Practice with SD handguns out to 50 yards
Clean and organize my reloading roomlol

Improve my speed in acquiring the target in the scope. Need to spend more time behind a scope .

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
