Maybe this will help some folks. I have a discontinued Nikon 4.5-14x40 Coyote Special. It is missing an adjustment cap. After much email correspondence from Nikon Customer Support, it is determined that these caps are no longer made and therefore not available any longer. They stated they may have some available at a later date and would send them to me if possible. I went to my local ACE Hardware and purchased some 1" plastic caps. The aluminum male thread diameter on the scope are a fraction larger than 1" per dial caliper measurement. If you shave a small amount from the I.D. of the cap and carefully hold it plumb, the threads will cut into the ridgid plastic cap. Use caution to keep any shavings from falling into your chamber. A bit of matte black spray paint and it'll look ok. Although, I would enjoy to have the original cap, this is a healthy alternative for keeping debris out of your adjustment turrets. For $2.15 (Texas price) and a couple of hours work, its worth it to protect a $300+ investment. Enjoy.
Thanks,

Cody
