This is a continuation of an earlier thread.  After much appreciated advice the decision has been made to wait for a nice clean Nikon 7X35 E Criterion bino.
  • Great reviews
  • IR 16-17 reported
  • Modern coatings
  • IPD to 72, perfect for me
  • Narrower FOV due to different eyepiece, hopefully makes them less desirable than the 8X
Some questions, please?

Should a guy automatically service and check collimation?

What would be a going rate for this bino in your country, a Canadian resident but your rates might help with international purchases.

Any opinions or a dusty one on the shelf?

I am familiar with this Nikon model.  I own the 10x35 E Criterion, and it is

a very nice binocular.  This series included the 7x35, 7.3*, 8x30 and 10x35.

They were made from 1988-2000, and featured fully multicoated optics.

They can be distinguished from older models as they have large white lettering

on the prism covers, and a (C), which stands for criterion.

A typical price for a very nice example of the 7x35 would be in the $250-300 range.

The next Nikon model was the Nikon EII model, still available, in 8x30 and 10x35.

Good luck with your search, this will be hard to find.

Edit to add:  As far as service, it should not require anything if in top condition, so

make sure it is in collimation and clean inside.  A proper service will be around $100.

I prefer Porro prism binoculars especially those made in Japan. (i.e. Minox BD 10x44 BP) 8>)

Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone.  The EII 8X30 is available landed here at somewhere under $600CAD.  Folks rave about this model but the 13-14 IR concerns me as well as the price.  There is a lot to be said for new however!  Can anyone speak to the loss of FOV for eyeglass users and these WA binos.  I wear glasses but a recent question regarding folks who swap out their glasses when glassing confirmed it is a relatively common practice.  If I still hunted it would not be an option but those days are gone.

Research indicates proper modern eyecup design is worthy of serious consideration.

Until I get lucky a generic 6X30, 6.5X32 or maybe a 7X35 Landscout will be bought this week, 110CAD to 140CAD delivered.  It is interesting that all except the Leupold appear to be in very similar to identical bodies.

I wear glasses..................

Whenever possible I remove the factory eye cups to get closer to the eyepiece lenses with my eyeglasses.
I use rubber O-rings, around the eyepiece lenses, just slightly above the lenses to keep my eyeglass lenses from being scratched.  Cool

This works well with vintage Nikon Wide Field binoculars, where the hard eyecups unscrew from the binocular.

The 7X35 did not materialize.  The 8X30 was a nice unit but I have underestimated the value I think.  The exchange rate lifts the price to $400CAD.  I had budgeted $300 tops and am now reconsidering budget ceiling.

Edit: I backed out due to price above my budget.  The seller was a nice fellow.  Looks like some pawn shop tours are coming up.  Might be some options when January Visa bills show up!
