Interested in adding this as a truck bin. That is the primary mission.  Excellent optics not expected.  My go to bin is a 8X30EII so real nice view is covered.  Truck tough with no abuse is important.

Any experiences to share, worts and all?

Not really sure about the Steiner model you ask about but I can tell you what works for me... I keep a Leupold Yosemite bx1 in my truck all the time. Decent optics for about $100, small but tough.
Mine is 8x, however, 6x may afford clearer and sharper viewing.

Much less glamor than many but mine has been stepped on, dropped and kicked. Still there and waiting.

Whitefire, a 6.5X Vortex Raptor is coming for my wife.  We will check it out and order another one for the kids maybe.  The Yosemite 6X appears to be unavailable in Canada.  Also the Vortex warranty is transferable if we ever want to sell.  Cold weather focus is an issue too.

I have no illusions that the Steiner is a near alpha.  It should be tough enough for my application.  Warranty is administered in Canada and transferable.  Both important issues.

I have used the military in 7x50 and 15x80 for many years. So, it is not an apples to apples comparison. But I find them to be very well built and able to take a beating.

Well I bought the bins.  Limited review except the build quality and all functions are excellent.  Focused the IF bins to 60 yards initially.  Close focus was better than the reported 66 feet but infinity focus not checked, 60 yard range limited.  The view was dominated by white haze and snowy conditions.

Range report when the weather is better, also report on the Raptor when it arrives.

I'm planning a comparison between the Nikon 8X30 EII and the 7X30 Steiner.

The Raptor is probably on hold.  A minor money wrinkle when ordering caused me to wait.
