Go to the hodgdon loading website. They list it for 223 with light to heavy bullets. Its on the slower side of burn rates for 223. Should be decent for the heavies.

Howdy runout,
If you already have 4064, then you can use it for your purpose. The 4064s are single- base powders and have a burn rate between the 4895s and Varget, both of which work well in .223. H4895 and Varget can deliver higher velocity with heavier bullets and are also temperature stable. IMR4064 is a bulkier powder and can fill cases like .30-06 better than the 4895s and is known for accuracy, for that reason. 4064 velocities in .223 will run a bit slower, but it's nevertheless an accurate powder and works fine with say, 68 gr SMKs, or 75gr. Hornady bthp. You'll compress powder charges in .223, using 4064 and bullets on the heavier range (60-80gr), before you reach SAAMI pressure, but that might also be the case with the other powders mentioned. Almost all of the most useful powders get compressed at pressure with the heavier bullets. As others mentioned, be sure to check Hodgdon's site for data. |
