I am shopping for a scope to use for silhouette use. I am limited to roughly $3-400. What I am considering is: Weaver Grand slam = 800469, 6-20x40, Plex Dot Weaver V = 849411, 6-24x42, Plex Dot Bushnell 4200 series= 426243A, 6-24x40, Dot The first question I have is are all these finger adjustable turrets? The Grand slam calls theirs "low profile target style finger controls" I do not know what the Bushnell and Weaver V series offer. Could someone rank these three with regards to suitability for turret adjustment? The second variable I need to consider is the repeatability of the settings; is there a leader in this department? I think the Grand Slam gets good marks here but I am not sure about the others. Thirdly, comparing the Weavers equipped with a "Plex Dot" and the Bushnell with a Dot reticle - which dot is larger and by how much? I think I am reading the dot size to be 1/4 MOA on the Bushnell but the graphic on the web page is not clear enough for me to tell whether it is 3/4 or 1/4 MOA. And I have no idea what the Weaver dot size is. And finally, am I correct that the lowest AO settings are - GS = 50' V = 50' and the Bushnell 4200 = 50 yards? Thanks for any help.

MD10/22,
The three scopes you are considering are real close in comparison optically, and mechanically, however you will get more for your money going with a quad power range (6-24).
All three scopes have the low profile target style adjustments with hash marks and numbers. In the price range you are looking, tracking and repeatability are a given.
The dot size in all three scopes is extremely small and being a variable power the dot will subtend different moa on different powers.
Finally, the A/O on the G.S goes down to 15 yards, the Elite goes down to 20 yards and the Classic goes down to 50 feet. Below are some links with further specifications.

David, Thank you for the information. I will need to chew on this a bit before I decide. |
