Leupold came by today and shared some of the new things that we recently introduced on the web, however are unseen by many.

Up first is   Leupold VX-6 HD Rifle Scopes.

The model I had the pleasure to view first, a favored power for me, was the 3-18X44. I'm going to have to double check mine, but this felt lighter than my 3-18X VX-6. Optically, it wasn't the best environment in the office to compare, although it is every bit as good as what I'm currently using. This one was a little more unique, because it had a locking two revolution CDS elevation dial.

Some may not be aware, but ALL VX-6 and VX-6 HD all include a CDS (Custom Dialing System).

What's the CDS for?

This is a custom dial that requires some information from you. You will provide Leupold with;

Cartridge & Caliber

Bullet Weight

Bullet Make/Brand

Bullet Type

Ballistic Coefficient

Muzzle Velocity

Average Elevation

Average Temperature

Sight Height

Leupold then will custom etch a 1/4 click a finger adjustable elevation turret for your scope. Then you range, Dial, and shoot.

Also, with your purchase of a Leupold VX-6 HD, included is a switchview lever for the power selector ring and alumina flip back covers. Don't waste your custom dial, call them up and order is. You will be shooting out to distances of 600 yards before you know it, proficiently.

Moving on, we were introduced to  Leupold VX-3i LRP.  Have you seen or heard of this?

Imagine a FFP, matching MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL reticle with corresponding adjustments with a attachment knob to shift magnification from one spectrum to the other, American made and less than $1000? Here it is.

Leupold’s LRP is available in First and Second Focal Plane.  With TMR, TMOA, and CCH non-illuminated reticles. This is an ideal application for the guy who may shoot 1-2 boxes of ammo a year, but still enjoys going to the range with his buddies and doing some medium to long range paperwork. The all new elevation adjustment features a unique travel indicator marked in 5 mil or 5 moa increments, and is easy to read from the prone or difficult shooting positions. An adjustable zero stop prevents over rotation. The windage dial features a protective cover that can be replaced with the included thread protector if you prefer running an exposed dial. A redesigned power selector with included throw lever makes magnification changes quick and easy.

Now, the one I was most excited to learn about.  Leupold's VX-5HD.

The VX-5HD is taking optical performance to a whole new level. Leupold gave it a High-Definition optical system for sharpened clarity, and the Twilight MaxTM Light Management System for even greater low-light performance, giving hunters a visible advantage at dawn and dusk when the biggest game is on the move. The VX-5HD also features Leupolds Guard-ion Lens Coating which sheds water, dirt and fingerprints.  Some VX-5HD models feature the new CDS-ZL2 (Custom Dial System ZeroLock 2) elevation to lock in place so it cannot be inadvertently rotated off its zero. A mere press of a button will allow the user to dial up two turns of elevation, if necessary. On the 2nd revolution of the elevation dial, the button sinks in to show you are on the 2nd turn so you can dial for extended ranges and never lose your place. All VX-5HD CDS-ZL2 riflescopes include one free Custom Ballistic Dial with purchase.   Some VX-5HD scopes include illuminated reticles with an easy to use 1 button intensity adjustment. The VX-5HD also comes with protective lens covers.  There also Alumina Lens Flipback Covers available additional as well as a new Throw Lever which can be reversed for Left Handed Bolt Rifle applications.

Leupold 3-15X56 VX-5HD 30mm Rifle Scope w/ Firedot and CDS Zero-Lock

My thoughts? Impressive. First thing I noticed immediately was that it echoed all the characteristics of my VX-6, but it is 5X’s magnification instead of 6X’s. It’s much cheaper than my VX-6, good weight and with all the new features I think it is a home run for Leupold.

Everything above is backed 100% by 700 fellow Americans at Leupold.  It’s the best warranty you won’t have to use.

Leupold Optics are built for a lifetime of performance at the highest level, plain and simple. Other companies offer lifetime warranties because they know the optics they’re selling you are going to break, fail, or fall short of expectations. At Leupold, that’s not how we do business.

With the Leupold Full Lifetime Guarantee, if your Leupold product doesn’t perform as promised, we will repair or replace it for free, whether you are the original owner or not—forever (excludes electronic components). You don’t need proof of ownership. Or a warranty card. And there’s no time limit. We do this because we believe in superior quality and craftsmanship, and we’re confident your Leupold won’t let you down. That’s the power of our company, and we stand behind our work.

Thermal? Yes, Leupold has a solution there too. Meet   Leupold 6X LTO-Tracker Thermal Viewer

The all new Leupold LTO-Tracker allows hunters to better understand their surroundings, easily recover game and have more success in the field. The compact thermal imager is only 5.6 inches long and weighs less than 10 ounces, allowing it to be carried comfortably in any pocket. It features a 21 degree field of view, 6x digital zoom, and has a thermal detection distance of up to 600 yards. The LTO-Tracker has 6 optional thermal palettes and a user controlled reticle for quick acquisition of the target. Above all, the LTO-Tracker sports a Leupold Gold Ring and is Designed, Machined, and Assembled in the United States. Add the LTO-Tracker to your pack and change the way you hunt forever.

This is VERY handy, and when it comes to thermal technology, extremely affordable.  It has more uses than just searching for hunted game. Ever wanted to know where hot spots are in your house? Work in the Oil field or pipeline and needed help detecting leaks? This will help aid in identifying those problematic areas in year around use.

Now it’s not designed to be weapon mountable. However the tube size, happens to be 30mm. Battery life is about 10 hours of constant use. Additionally detection is from 0-600 yards.

Binoculars:

Leupold BX-3 Mojave PRO GUIDE SERIES

Being an avid bow hunter, many are accalmated to the facts that next to a well tuned bow, apart of your equipment in the woods is a good pair of binoculars.  For a long time, I felt that Leupold was lacking in this area. I use their range finder and have plenty of their scopes, but have opted for other manufactures when it comes to binocular selection. A former user of the original BX-3 Mojave’s I was not really impressed with the image supplied. Today changed my opinion. The new Pro Guide Series is an improvement of it’s former life. A ressurection. The body is the same which I did like, they are very ergonomic. Again, still made in Japan however, the change was with lens improvements. Leupold is now using ED lenes in the Pro Guide Series.

Looking through these I could see an appreciable difference in contrast and optical clarity. Grossly putting these back in competition with other manufactures again.  I was all smiles.  Oh, they have new colors available too, Grey, Kryptic Camo patterns and Black.

Lastly was Leupold’s new BX-2 TIOGA HD: These are a super compact binocular, with a close focus of a little over three feet. The rubber armor is very grippy, so that it will not slip out of your hands with or without gloves on.

BX-2 TIOGA HD binocular family. Available in 8x & 10x32mm, 8x & 10x42mm, & 10x & 12x50mm models. Colors include SHADOW GREY, and various Mossy Oak patterns depending on specific model: Mossy Oak Obsession, Mossy Oak Breakup Country, Mossy Oak Mountain Country.

When I first put hands on them, I noticed that Leupold isn’t using the old neoprene bags any longer. They now have very sleek, appealing carry cases that I thought were cool. Matching the case, you can see their new neck strap design. This is very comfortable to handle.
