I didn't know if I should post in firearms or hunting. Mods please feel free to move. Thinking about purchasing a new Winchester Model 70 Supergrade in 300 WSM that I saw at the local gun store. It appears to be unfired. Also, has the box and paper work. Who has them? Do you like them? What do you use it for? I am think mainly hunting, What do you hunt with them? Thanks.

The 300 WSM will handle anything that you will find in North American in the wild . In some areas ammunition is not as common as the plain 300 win mag. Stands to reason with the shorter age of the WSM cartridges. The short action adds performance enjoyed by some shooters. You will enjoy the addition to your stable.

I have a browning mountain TI is 300 wsm.  It has a titanium action and pencil barrel so it is really light weight.  With scope its around 7ish lbs.  It is around MOA accurate.  Being so light it kicks like a beeotch.  10 to 15 rounds at the range and I am hurting.  With my thin barrel 3 to 4 rounds and the POI starts changing from barrel heat.  But for a hunting gun, all those things are just fine.  Not very often do you need or get to shoot more than 3 to 4 rounds on an elk.

I use mine for elk hunting.  It is not a gun I like to shoot a lot because of the recoil, so it does not get used really for anything else by me.  My dad has kind of claimed it as he like how light it is to carry around.  He uses it for deer and elk hunting.

I can shoot 200 grain bullets between 2800 and 2900 fps.  It is a great caliber for bigger game IMO.

I am a short action guy as I like to be able to run the action without having to move my cheek weld, so the 300 WSM was my choice for a more powerful round.

The Winchester is over 2 lbs heavier so it will be better in the recoil dept.

Mine wears a Leupold VX6 2-12x now.  I can dial to 800ish yards with the single turn turret on the VX-6.  Great fit for it IMO.

Sorry to hear that. My LGS has a sign that says basically  The gun you are going home to think about is the same gun someone else was thinking about yesterday and is coming in today to buy it.

I have a Tikka 300 WSM I like how easy it is to reload for it a lot like a .308 The down side is the muzzle blast is something don't stand next to one. Same type ballistics as 300 Win Mag just no belt on the case. I'm really happy with the Tikka and it has a Zeiss 4.5-14  with Rapid Z 800 so its a nice hunting rig mine only sees coyotes so far.
