Hi Guys
I own a 10/22 TakeDown Ruger .22cal. Rifle. Would love to put a scope on it. However, I'm so new to target shooting and rifles scopes! For instants: What does this mean with magnification on the scope? Please explain in layman's terms. There's two example if you will please. What does this mean of a rifle scope? 6-24x44mm? And the difference to this? 16x42mm? Really CONFUSED about the meaning of these numbers and the mm's? Thanks Guys |

The 6-24X44 is variable power scope. The first number 6 is the minimum power or times the image is increased. Example: The image will appear 6 times larger through the scope than to the naked eye. Since it is a variable power, the image can be increased up to 24 times, or anywhere between 6 to 24 power.
The 44 is the objective lens diameter in millimeters. Generally, the larger the objective lens the more light enters the scope to make the image brighter. Of course there are a lot of variables to this, such glass quality, and atmospheric conditions, but this is a very simple answer to your question. Oh yes, the 16X42 is a fixed power scope, meaning it only has one power setting, and the 42 is the objective lens (the lens on the front of the scope) diameter.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.
